Publishing the code for that little stock/crypto/other display I've been tinkering away with for the last couple of weeks github.com/duggan/inkysto… Finally, breaking the cycle 5+ years later twitter.com/duggan/status/…

Raspberry Pi project development cycle: 1. Have cool idea for project 2. Buy Raspberry Pi 3. Never do anything with it

I've noticed that I'm very susceptible to the Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect with ChatGPT - I scoff at its technical incorrectness in one conversation then proceed to use it like some sort of sentient wikipedia on topics I don't know anything about.

Enjoying ChatGPT but when it comes to software sometimes it's like talking to someone who is absolutely blind drunk. Frequently invents things that it then apologies for when you point out that it is pure fiction. Good to get the creative juices flowing though!

Weird to be directed to Jira's product roadmap from within the app, and the first random "roadmap" item I click on is a feature announcement for a discontinued product

In order from least to most stressful: - code works - code doesn't work - code doesn't work, don't know why - code works, don't know why

Love a good thread about handling spaghetti codebases. Somehow I manage to find myself agreeing with every opinion at once (write tests / bad code leads to bad tests / never rewrite / rewrite is the only way). The cognitive dissonance is immense news.ycombinator.com/item?id=328835…

Spent most of my day in pdb (which I've never used directly before), teasing out what ended up being a tricky SQLAlchemy early transaction termination issue that only manifested during FastAPI's JSON serialization, only in production, for one (reported) meeting. A great day!

Before Covid, visiting startups meant visiting offices full of midcentury modern furniture in buildings near Market Street. Now it means visiting an apartment containing a baby, a dog, and 6 coworkers who haven't met in person for a month.

I used to have to make my Mac look like a Linux box. Today I have to make it look like an AWS region instead.

Some books really catch you at the right moment — I think @tfadell’s Build is going to be something I keep coming back to. Lot of inspiration, wisdom, and no bullshit :) I feel pumped every time I read a few pages 💪

Occurred to me recently that it's now possible to regularly test install our development environment with Github Actions thanks to the macOS runners. Will help make onboarding new developers that bit more reliable.
