Dublin 8 Swifts

@dublinswifts

We hope to protect swifts and connect the public to this enchanting bird, whilst also highlighting how human behaviour is putting them at risk of extinction.

Great work being done in Youghal.

What a week .. Youghal Swift project is growing. The town saw 16 boxes last year and 60 this week in 4 locations .. let's hope our swift population will grown from this... Thanks to Youghal Blue and Green for all their support

Great swift conservation taking place in Cork. Connecting people to nature and this remarkable bird. echolive.ie/corkviews/arid…

Important coverage today for our beloved Swifts by @ellamcsweeney in this great article. Effective solutions for their conservation exist. The magic of this mesmerising bird must be expierenced by all. irishtimes.com/environment/20…?

Travelling between Cork and Fermanagh to do some work at a swift colony, I spotted the extraordinary #swift mural by @jameskirwanart in Mountmellick. Wowza!!

Magic moment last August when a grounded swift we helped rescue from Dun Laoghaire was released. Initially dehydrated and underweight, but successfully rehabbed over 7 days by Sophie and the team at Kildare Wildlife Rescue. @WildlifeKildare These creatures are truly enchanting

First swift of the season spotted yesterday morning St Louise's School, Ballyfermot, Dublin. Please share any sightingings.

How to kill rhododendron- a thread- Size matters- Scenario 1: small plants, small area infected- pull them out by hand, taking the whole root out, and leave to desiccate on dry ground.

Another extinction! The beautiful Ring Ouzel is down to one pair in Ireland. Shame on us. Inspirational talk this evening from ⁦@SoundsIrish⁩ and ⁦@BirdWatchIE⁩ Cork but sad news about the threat to Irish birds. images.app.goo.gl/e5jGSvGyiA3nET…

Not just a rare patch of blue sky - 37 swifts up there! Numbers are building over West Raynham but it's impossible to count them as they swirl and scream about. Many others out of shot, so likely 50-60 birds altogether @swiftsweek @SaveourSwifts @WriterHannahBT @JonathanMPomroy

🤞🤞 Please re assess your decision @mtpennycook

A pleasure to sit down with @BeccyRSPB and @WriterHannahBT today to discuss in detail precisely how we best achieve our shared objective of quickly and effectively boosting swift brick coverage across the country.

Swifts this morning over my rooftop. Lots of exciting activity from the non-breeders. Glad the bad weather hasn’t sent them packing yet. Anyone who’s tried photographing swifts with a phone will acknowledge this as a valiant effort.

I could hear but not see the swifts as the rain settled at dusk last night. One can only assume this period of persistent rain (thank you climate breakdown) is leaving a lot of swifts hungry and putting breeding success at risk.

One year ago today (the hottest day on record here *ever*) I created #TheFeatherSpeech in my head. This week has been a big week for OUR collective campaign for #swifts + the threatened birds who share our walls. 🪶There’s a home in sight🪶#BrickByBrick #PassionIsASuperpower
