New Research: Pre-vaccination transcriptomic profiles of immune responders to the MUC1 peptide vaccine for colon cancer prevention frontiersin.org/articles/10.33… #FrontiersIn #Immunology
Our paper is out re:analysis of 2 successful clinical trials using MUC1 vaccine for colon cancer prevention. We identified biomarkers of vaccine efficacy & show baseline immune status can predict subsequent response. w/ @caseccc @Pitt_PMI @drcherylcameron frontiersin.org/journals/immun…
JN.1 emerged from BA.2.86 late last year to drive new COVID infections through the cold & flu season. We need to know more about XEC and any variant still to come. Being up to date on the latest COVID boost is the best preventative action we can take right now. w/@WomensHealthMag
The XEC Covid Variant Is About To Hit The U.S.—Experts Say To Look Out For These Symptoms womenshealthmag.com/health/a622269…
It’s clear we are still in a cat and mouse game against new variants of COVID-19. I wish the booster was rolled out earlier than it has been this year and last, given the late summer infections we’ve seen. w/@health_com_
Congrats to our @CWRUSOM summer student intern Kinsley Cobean for acing her training with @drcherylcameron & Banu Tamilselvan in our @10xGenomics multiomic protocols and translational projects. She went from protocol to pipette in record time and is teed up for the data analysis!
Team science paper with @sanjay_MD1 group & @drcherylcameron/@Sadeer_AlKindi labs out in Circulation today where we're helping assess inflammation in patients with high-risk type 2 diabetes & chronic kidney disease following the multi-center MAGMA trial. ahajournals.org/doi/abs/10.116…
Congrats to our summer student Sairam Pantham for Best Presentation in his group via the Youth Engaged in Science/Scientific Enrichment Opportunity Program analyzing single cell & spatial data in endometrial cancer pilots supported by @caseccc @CTSC_NorthernOH w/@drcherylcameron
Our team science w/@ClevelandClinic re:RNASeq of human multiple sclerosis lesions via laser capture is out. The study helped launch an era of new spatial tech in our lab w/promise of rare insight into chronic illnesses that r otherwise difficult to study. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…
Our latest team paper @JIDJournal re:immunology of COVID-19 vaccine/boost in nursing home residents. Biological sex, age, multimorbidity & prior infection all factor. Important readiness info as we flirt w/FLiRT variants going forward. w/@drcherylcameron academic.oup.com/jid/article/do…
Our preprint is up w/our analysis of 2 clinical trials using MUC1 vaccine for colon cancer prevention. We found biomarkers of vaccine efficacy at baseline where immune status can predict subsequent response. w/@theNCI @caseccc @Pitt_PMI @drcherylcameron medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
Four yrs ago I sat down with @brookbanktv during early days of the pandemic looking much less worse for wear. I hoped our work on SARS-03 prepared us for COVID-19 & that turned out to be true. Still working on this virus & anything yet to come. youtu.be/EWHn44L5CB4?si…
New paper from the Camerons lab in close collab w/@BrianGastmanMD @GastmanLab re: discovery of unexpected therapy targets to prop up immune responses to melanoma tumors. Integrates flow, bulk/single cell RNAseq & clinical/trial data etc. Supported by @caseccc & @ClevelandClinic

At #EACS2023, our tocilizumab trial was chosen as one of the top 6 papers in cardiometabolic health for ppl w/#HIV published in 2023! @mmlederman1 @LCalabreseDO @drmjcameron @UH_RE_Institute @HIVOhio
My comments w/@wired @marynmck re:whether #COVID19's settling into a seasonal pattern. Rare that all sources on same page. COVID isn't just riding with cold/flu, it's driving its own bus. This wave isn't (or wasn't) the start of the cold/flu season, it's our yearly early warning.
With fall comes virus season, but Covid deaths and hospitalizations began rising at the end of July, and wastewater surveillance that looks for the virus has been on a slow upward trend. So do we have a “Covid season” now? wired.trib.al/5GNdOpZ
The Cameron(s) lab finds both big challenge & big science with our valued collaborators. Our work with @umiamimedicine CFAR extends more than a decade. Here's our new immunotherapy study modeling the relationship between HIV, flu vacc response, and aging. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…
.@CWRUSOM's Mark Cameron discussed a new CDC report suggesting that leprosy cases are rising in some states. Get the details: menshealth.com/health/a447333…
Leprosy is recognized/curable but many research/medical questions persist beside a giant global health need to reduce the infection's burden in endemic countries around the world. Thanks to @ericapsweeney & @MensHealthMag for increasing awareness of leprosy on the rise in the US.
Congrats Mehrdad Hosseini for a great presentation @cwru Summer Intersections. We hosted him as visiting @TexasTech med student via @cwrusom's Heart Lung & Blood Summer Research Program, making fast progress w/@drcherylcameron & the entire Cameron(s)lab on heart failure in PWHIV.
What's consistent thru my 20yr career in emerging infect disease is research stalls & pandemic news heads to the back pages, not making headlines until too late. Public health deserves to stay much better informed/prepared/supported than via single metrics.spectrumnews1.com/oh/columbus/ne…
Where did COVID Go? My chat w/@markhamh We might have omicron backed into a corner but too many are still impacted by COVID ranging from a daily toll to be paid to tragedy. Is this 'out of sight out of mind' or ‘it is what it is’? We need to stay ahead. link.medium.com/Yk9PVwkkzBb
