Now in a strange way, forcing manufacturers to use "natural" ingredients COULD improve our food system, but not in the way people think. It wouldn't make the food healthier, but it would make it MORE EXPENSIVE TO PRODUCE. And that would reduce consumption. Like a tax!

What havoc was this cat wreaking on the streets to warrant a public announcement of his sterilization?

...have any more luck changing that reality than the last 20 "reformers" who tried. Trump and Musk may fire a lot of people, and get rid of a lot of regulations, but they won't fundamentally make the govt more efficient. They'll just make it worse at the jobs it already does.

darthskeptic Reposted

Moreover, insofar as there are inefficiencies and redundancies in how federal agencies operate, it's generally set up that way for the benefit of one or another powerful special interest groups that the government depends on for the economy to run smoothly, and Musk will not...

Now, it's *theoretically* possible you could consolidate a bunch of agencies and do all the same things the federal govt does with a simplified org chart. But it's unclear how much benefit that would be and you'd need Congress to approve any meaningful changes.

darthskeptic Reposted

Musk will not make any meaningful cuts to government spending or improve efficiency. The vast majority of govt spending is on Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, defense, and interest. All of those things combined are 80% of the budget. None of those can be meaningfully cut.

If RFK takes away Trump’s Diet Coke, more for me #Alwayslookonthebrightsideoflife

Trump is going to fire RFK Jr. after one day, when he tells Donald Diet Coke is bad for him.

I’m gonna keep banging this drum because it’s critical to how we as Dems understand the loss and the lessons we draw moving forward: Harris didn’t lose because people stayed home, she lost because Trump persuaded people to shift to him.

I know there were a lot of early takes last week that the Dem base stayed home. But as the votes continue to be counted, we now know that Harris won more votes than Biden in 4 of 7 battlegrounds and ran almost exactly even with him across the 7 states.

Between Trump's tariffs, the possible mass deportations, and shit like this, America's agricultural sector is about to be nuked from orbit

RFK Jr: "I'm going to reverse 80 years of farm policy in this country, which have directed us toward industrial agriculture, industrial meat production, factory farming, and chemical-based agriculture, carbon-based fertilizers" Industrial meat production and factory farming, huh

This is making California look like the joke of the nation. We can't be saying "this is how it is supposed to work"! No it isn't! This is how it *can* work, because there is no pressure, but others can and do count a lot more ballots way more quickly. Look at Orange County.

We will find out more on...Tuesday, when Merced chooses to update next. Just a reminder that this is not exactly how it is *supposed* to work — it is the county being very lazy and inadequately staffing its offices. Other counties can and do count a lot more ballots way faster.

The second House episode was a case of (spoiler) subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, a fatal neurologic condition where measles breaks out in the brain after lying dormant for years after the initial infection.

This is what Timothy Snyder refers to as "obeying in advance."

Remarkable: 2 DC district courts agree, over objection of DOJ, to postpone criminal trials of jan 6 Ds b/c of Trump's victory. Reasoning: conserve court resources and avoid hauling in dozens of potential jurors for cases that might be called off in a few weeks.
