First seen in this morning's @politico Pulse from @kelhoops, we are releasing a new report showing hospitals threatening to dump patientsā insurance networks as a negotiating tactic to raise prices. This āhostage-takingā strategy puts individuals at risk of losing access to care.
- Sure -Nah -YES
NEW: Fresh off re-election wins, MGP and Jared Golden have proposed a bipartisan task force to reform elections. Proposals on the table: āOpen primaries āMulti-member districts āIncreasing House membership beyond 435 notus.org/congress/blue-ā¦
Instead of stripping coverage from low-income Americans, it would be more productive to rethink the prices some Medicaid programs are paying for care. Some states are paying hospitals at commercial levels through excessive supplemental payments.
Tale as old as time. The relentless crusade against programs that help the most vulnerable Americans resurfaces. "Block grants" or "per capita caps" would force states into making impossible decisions -- hurting some of the poorest, sickest, and most vulnerable Americans. š§µ
NEW - GOP, Trump allies look at changes to Medicaid, food stamps to offset cost of tax bill Under discussion: Work requirements; eligibility restrictions; benefit formula changes Possible they stay away from both programs W/ @jacobbogage @ddiamond washingtonpost.com/business/2024/ā¦
My dog probably is an RFK Jr. support because he too hates vaccines š
New @USCBO score of the Healthy Competition for Better Care Act shows it would save taxpayers $5 billion and premium reductions would translate to higher wages! This bill would ban hospitalsā use of anticompetitive contracting terms that increase prices. cbo.gov/publication/60ā¦
āOne key factor that contributed to this loss will recur if not candidly confronted: The Democratic party is seen by far too many voters as having drifted far too left,ā wrote TW President Jon Cowan in @BulwarkOnline thebulwark.com/p/democrats-doā¦
House Republicans are slashing your health benefits and raising your costs. Promises made š¤ Promises kept
House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington says Republicans should use reconciliation to cut health care programs. Unclear whether he means Medicare, Medicaid, or just ACA the tax credits. Last time they had control, Rs tried to cut both Medicaid and the ACA credits.
Put me down as relieved
Rand Paul announces heāll chair Homeland Security Committee. He could have chaired HELP but says he picked HSGAC because āCongress must stand up once again for its constitutional roleā Says heāll have Noem ready for DHS on Jan. 20 and first hearing is on remain in Mexico
Today, we at @ThirdWayEcon are proud to join @FamiliesUSA and nearly 60 others in calling on Congressional leadership to advance reforms that improve transparency, promote healthy competition, and curb industry abuses to lower health care costs. š familiesusa.org/wp-content/uplā¦
The American Medical Association voted to support firm standards for nonprofit hospitalsā community benefits! āFailing to standardize the financial assistance process across all nonprofit hospitals makes the benefit inaccessible to many eligible people.ā ama-assn.org/press-center/pā¦
My guess is this means theyāll work to undermine the ACA through promoting junk insurance and expanding HSAsā¦ and theyāll look to cut Medicaid to generate their offsets.
Asked Speaker Johnson at House votes tonight whether ACA repeal was on the table w/ a GOP trifecta. His response was āno oneās talking about repealing the ACA.ā Johnson did say there would be āhealth care reformā to bring down costs but didnāt specify what that would look like.
Healthcare supply chain industry groups are already requesting an exemption for medical products from Trumpās tariffs.
Parts of the health care industry are warning Trumpās tariffs could be āunsustainableā and lead to hospital closures. With @davidalim: subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2024/1ā¦
The thing to learn from Alsobrooks is that moderate Republicans like Hogan dramatically overperform the national GOP ticket just like @RepMGP and @golden4congress overperform for Dems. Many ways to be moderate, and they work!
I think it's worthwhile for folks to look closely at the Alsobrooks campaign. She broke apart the twice-winning "Hogan coalition" by not shaming moveable voters--including 25%+ of Black voters and 1/3 of mod/cons Dems-- who cast a ballot for him twice.
There will be a ton of speculation of what went wrong this time around, but looking forward Democrats must come together and present the American people with an alternative to Trump and the Republicans that will speak to the center to form a winning coalition.
āThe one way to beat a right-wing populist is through the center,ā ā@ThirdWayMattB nytimes.com/2024/11/07/us/ā¦
My brother in college sent me horrifying images of conservative students celebrating the Trump win and they are horrifying.
If Medicare and Social Security cuts are off the table, Medicaid and the ACA will have targets on their backs to pay for tax cuts. But, don't underestimate powerful interests that will oppose those cuts, including hospitals, physicians, insurers, patient groups, and governors.
.@JulieJohnsonTX makes history tonight! She will become the first out LGBTQ member of Congress from the U.S. South. š³ļøāš
