👇👇👇The huge cost of reproducing images from publicly-funded institutions across Britain, not just @britishmuseum, came as a shock when I was working on my book. Often images of looted objects. Also the controls on using your own photos. In the US, images were hi-res and free.
Museum copyrights gatekeeping, @britishmuseum style 🧵: An author who contributes to the Handbook wishes to include pictures of musem displays that they took themselves (so objects in their display context w label etc.). 1/
I've been thinking about ambition, competition and how these can be disconnecting and isolating forces. Allora & Calzadilla + Chiang take on these themes beautifully in "The Great Silence” vimeo.com/195588827
Pigeons are such a noble lineage of birds. The iridescent rock pigeon is the crown jewel of the human cityscape. Yet we spread such vile lies about them. We already extinguished the world’s greatest pigeon nation. How blessed we are to live alongside those that remain.
The way this pigeon descends 😧
With the recent news of the TNR arrests, I felt compelled to make this video. Join me RIGHT NOW to LIVE CHAT about this VERY IMPORTANT topic, while we watch this new video premiere together! #TNR #Caturday youtu.be/PRP4vffSjHA

I believe we have the power to take down the walls and fences around our content gardens. I believe in a generous, playful internet. Always have, always will.
During challenging times, do not shrink from your love and enthusiasm. Do not hide it away. Redirect it to where it is most needed, most appreciated, and most reciprocated.
"When botanical gardens have offered visitors a narrative of the white man’s supposed 'discovery' of species, they have obliterated longer and richer cultural histories of humans’ relationships with plants." theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

A prime example of a society built on trust - a typical kindergarten in the centre of Helsinki where all the prams are just left outside (unlocked), ready for the parents to return in the evening... 😍
“Trees are alive and contain universes." – Paola Antonelli MoMA Curator @curiousoctopus considers the journey of wood throughout history, questioning humans’ treatment of trees and the responsibility of designers. Visit @formafantasma's 'Cambio' today. serpentinegalleries.org/art-and-ideas/…

Illusions are dying. The question is what takes their place, and whether the truth is bearable.
One way to honor #BlackoutTuesday: Skip the social media; read Black writers instead
This. Listening and learning, giving space to those that have much to say but aren’t always heard. Makes much more sense than scrolling dozens of black squares.
the blackout tuesday does NOT mean to simply post a black picture and leave social media for the day. It means to stop promoting your own stuff for 24 hours, and instead amplify the voices & projects of Black creators, writers, directors, activists and more. pass it on.

Museums are the R&D of society and can play a pivotal role in civic life by addressing urgent issues with the clarity, honesty, and compassion that art and artist provide. Learn about MoMA R&D in @MuseumModernArt's Magazine moma.org/magazine/artic… We are essential "business!"
“That story, with all the highs and lows and what seems so ordinary, what seems like nothing to you - is your power”. Still need to watch Becoming, but I think we all need to say this to ourselves from time to time.
Now that BECOMING is out, I'm excited to share the inspiring story of Elizabeth who I met last year while spending time with a group of remarkable young women from my old high school, @wyhs As you watch, I hope you'll see your own stories reflected in this film. #IAmBecoming
