As floodwaters recede, the long process of cleanup and recovery begins. The actions you take in the 24 hours following a flood can make all the difference. Here are some steps from @fema to follow immediately after a flood: floodsmart.gov/flood

To say it’s been a long night and day is an understatement. Despite our jurisdiction needing this flash flood emergency earlier (in coordination with us & NWS) and having significant flooding/water rescues, we are fortunate compared to NC and SC. Devastating storm all around.

A FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY for central and southern Fulton County, including Atlanta. **DANGEROUS FLASH FLOODING OCCURRING** DO NOT walk or drive through flooded areas. IF TRAPPED, go to the highest level of your home/building, including the roof. Do not climb into a closed attic.

Overnight and through the day, we continue our activation, coordination, and response to the impacts of Hurricane Helene across Fulton County. Throughout the county, water rescues are still ongoing, and crews are actively working to clear trees and powerlines.

To say that nothing happened with Helene is pretty disrespectful to someone reading your post with a tree on their house, a flooded basement, no power or cable, or a seasons worth of crops lost. It is stunning to me that if it didn't happen to you, there is the perception that it…

Atlanta received the highest 48-hour rainfall on record over the past 2 days. 11.12 inches of rain soaked the area, beating out the previous record of 9.59 inches in 48 hours in 1886. Record keeping stretches back to 1878. #gawx #helene2024

In what can only be described as perfect coincidence, I have received my @GeorgiaEMAHS Advanced CEM in the mail this evening, while eating @WaffleHouse, and preparing for Hurricane Helene.

Still surprised by when organizations write emergency plans assuming employees will prioritize work response over family. These plans will fail ever. Single. Time. Effective leadership trains people to look after their people first, then work. #EMGTwitter #businesscontinuity

Frustrating to hear the A/Dir @SecretService say USSS wasn’t in the Unified Command Post, claiming it's "an emergency management model they use." Which model is that? There’s no reason for the USSS not to be in the Unified Command Post. #EMGTwitter

The worldwide IT outage has affected many systems. A software update by cyber security provider Crowdstrike caused this - there is currently no indication of a cyber attack or malicious act. The company has issued a patch, & organizations are working to apply it to their systems.

AFCEMA is actively supporting and continuing to monitor the impacts and disruptions to the community from the global IT outages. We will share any major information via social media as we receive it.
