Go find my new post on Bluesky! I’ll also be posting here until things get crazier. My Bluesky is @cgwilson25.bsky.social Anyways, this is Xenoglossa albata, a specialist on Dalea. I accidentally knocked her abdomen off and lost it somewhere on the floor :(

NEW BEE JUST DROPPED! The sparkly blue Andrena androfovea might be the first of roughly 1700 Andrena species to be a specialist of the Solanaceae (tomato family), and has a sternal hairbrush for pollen collection! doi.org/10.1002/ece3.7…

I think what I miss most about spring in the Mojave are the bees sleeping in flowers.

We started our day today with this lovely adult female Tawny Owl. Always the perfect start to a woodland bird ringing session.

While going through some Melissodes from Bogart I came across this interesting Melissodes. This is M. Ecplectica bruneri, and was collected by Bohart in Argentina. At this point bruneri may have still been considered a member of the genus Thygater (?). What a fun little bee!

Some polychaetes are bioluminescent; this sassy sparkler has protein structures in the bristles, making them iridescent. Polychaete means many bristles, and each body segment has a pair of fleshy protrusions called parapodia covered in bristles called chaetae. #ChileMargin2024
