Octogenarians and fresh new voices seem to have talked amongst themselves to make 2023 one of the best years in cinema ever 😀 opinion-seed.com/2024/03/02/mov…
Drive My Car Nope Aftersun TÁR Killers of the Flower Moon hm: The Boy and the Heron The fact that 3 of those released in a span of just 12 months is nuts 🙂
it would help me tons if you'd tell me what your picks for "5 essential movies of the 2020s" are
The ‘near-ridiculous’ subgenre kings are back. Inconvenient filmmaking that hits close to home. opinion-seed.com/2024/07/12/kin… letterboxd.com/cfilipec/film/…
My review of The Bikeriders: letterboxd.com/cfilipec/film/… This is a movie really in line with my tastes. Not because of the bikes and the cool dudes. It has them xD, but what makes this screenplay very specific to my liking is the curiosity it shows about non-generalizing.
Rebirth expresses itself in 2024 like my imagination saw it 1997. But, because it’s not only a technological coat of paint, it matured, surprised me, and, like the original, sets a new standard for open world RPGs. Congratulations @nhamaguc and team! opinion-seed.com/2024/06/07/fin…
Gaming in 2023 had high quality experiences across many different genres. Yet, one masterpiece clearly stood out 🙂 opinion-seed.com/2024/02/03/gam…
One of the best movies of Martin Scorsese’s already iconic filmography. What makes it reach higher highs is the (80-year-old) admirable and ego-less self-analysis in the service of remembering the killed. opinion-seed.com/2024/01/06/kil…
The Teachers' Lounge is one of the best films I've seen this year. Not because it's not what it seems. But because, despite this, it doesn't resort to tricks to tell us what really is going on. Highly recommend if you come across it. opinion-seed.com/2023/12/01/the…
Tears of the Kingdom is more than everything I wanted Breath of the Wild to be. It is something better on its own terms. Review inside 🙂 opinion-seed.com/2023/10/16/the…
One of the best films I saw this year 😀 opinion-seed.com/2023/10/10/the… Technically immaculate, while touching on an emotional level. It will astonish you visually, and will make you think about the conflict between idealised reality and hard reality. Whole-heartedly recommend 🥰
Highly recommend R.M.N. Based on the 2020 Ditrău incident, it's a film that chooses to work with symbols rather than a docu-dramatic lens. Compellingly, it's this visual shake up of our perception that makes us look deeper into causes and consequences. opinion-seed.com/2023/09/25/r-m…
Favorite 25 Bushido Blade for life 😀 topsters.org
I don't have the mental bandwidth currently to figure out how to fit TOTK into this list
Past Lives is a more than welcome return of the emotionally intelligent romantic movie for adults, that seemed to have faded away thanks to a culture increasingly obsessed with conquest and goals. opinion-seed.com/2023/09/12/pas…
I rollerbladed from Los Alamos to Barbie Land, and found similar signs of cool-people clubs being pernicious to all of us. opinion-seed.com/2023/08/20/bar… Still, got those Barbenheimer stickers in my cinephile passport 🤠
In theater? Fellowship of the Ring - how was this adaptable? Mad Max Fury Road - my heart was still pumping highly on the ride home. Dune - best IMAX experience, which made me think for a second it was the best movie I had ever seen. The Dark Knight - summer blockbuster GOAT
What are some of your favorite theater experiences of all time? A few of mine: - 2001: A Space Odyssey (with a live orchestra!) - LOTR (being a kid when these came out was so fun) - The Green Knight (breathtaking on a big screen) - Us (such a fun audience experience)
My Oppenheimer review 🤠 opinion-seed.com/2023/08/10/opp… As a big fan of Nolan, and not as big a fan of biopics, this was a challenging reflection to write. But, for the good reasons: because the movie is challenging in itself, and not because of my expectations for it.
Top 4 of the year so far
To celebrate 6 years of the site 🥳, I decided to give it a visual overhaul, and go back to writing in-depth reviews with a bigger cadence. opinion-seed.com/2023/08/01/fin… Next week, Oppenheimer. Going back to this format will also inform the way I structure end-of-year lists 😉
My list of movies of the year 2022 🙂 The first two never wavered. Which says something about them, since I got to experience incredible films and moments in cinema last year. I hope these words are stimulating of new watches or re-watches 😉 tinyurl.com/4s5nm49r
