Staffing up for some really fun new projects. If you're looking to join my group, use this form: forms.gle/QcTs28QDym1dqt…

The controversy this paper has caused caught me by surprise. It is easy to get a perfectly respectable LCA to spit out a negative number for a system that does not do CDR. The approach has to be different. But we're here to listen. Reach out w/ feedback! cell.com/one-earth/full…

Our own Jason Porzio is featured! So cool to see his career progression. Keep an eye out for him — he’s a rockstar.

EBI Seminar Series Part 5 - STEM Graduate Chronicles Jason Porzio, a research associate at @BerkeleyLab, joins us to discuss the transition from grad school to the workforce and how to face uncertainty and doubt.🔬💼 youtu.be/q286XA_TXiw?si…

Quick appreciation post to some colleagues in the carbon removal space who continue to inspire and motivate me to work hard every day on climate change mitigation. roads2removal.org Looking forward to the work ahead! @Dan_L_Sanchez, @cdscown, @RogerAines, @Jeffinerca

I wrote an exam problem for my CE11 class years ago to demonstrate how monumentally stupid these things are. NYT agrees: nytimes.com/wirecutter/rev…

Suppose your budget this year for employee morale events is $10/person. What do you spend it on?

Get the job done and then have a big glass of wine tonight because it has been a long road and it may not be over for a while.

Ballot completed, mailed, and counted! No small feat in CA where some of these propositions require serious research to make an informed choice. If you have not already, please make a plan to vote and make your voice heard in this important election.

Lest anybody think this is ok, I checked Springer-Nature and Elsevier's guidelines and both explicitly say reviewers should not upload papers they are reviewing to chatbots because it is a breach of confidentiality. Peer review is broken enough as-is. Just don't do this.

Yet another peer reviewer, clearly using ChatGPT to generate a review of our paper. Super generic comments. Credit to the exec editor for removing their request for us to cite, presumably, their own work.

Politics aside, this is why everyone needs to be nice to government employees. Because you get requests for several dissertations' worth of work to be done in 48 hrs.

Whenever I'm stressed at work because my boss is being unreasonable I remember the emails Donald Rumsfeld used to send to his staff

FECM has an incredible job posting for an LCA expert to work on carbon management/CCS! Go take a look: usajobs.gov/job/816698400

Our Virtual Institute on Feedstocks of the Future (VIFF) recently convened projects advancing a circular bioeconomy. Working across disciplines, participants explored ways to unlock carbon potential from biomass, reduce waste and strengthen economies @FoundationFAR

If you are an expert in carbon management, take a look -- NASEM is seeking experts for a DOE-sponsored committee. Submitting a nomination for yourself or others is easy! nationalacademies.org/our-work/safet…

Help me solve a mystery. Why is our biositing.jbei.org tool so popular in Council Bluffs, IA? On August 16 alone, we got > 100 new users all coming from this place & more keep coming. Next most popular place is Coffeyville, KS where a proposed SAF facility is going in.

Only in CA will a wine magazine call you a "rockstar" and "hotshot" for mapping out where all the orchard trimmings and pomace are... grapeandwinemag.com/2024/10/23/can…

The @jbei Feedstocks-to-Fuels pipeline in all its glory, screening drought-stressed sorghum grown here in CA to see how it does in our conversion process. Team science at its best! Now with a fabulous cover 😍@ACS4Authors doi.org/10.1021/acssus…

@jbei's Feedstock-to-Fuels pipeline helps us screen hundreds of samples quickly to figure out how plant genotype, phenotype, and environmental stressors could impact its performance in a biorefinery. Here, we try drought-stressed sorghum: doi.org/10.1021/acssus… 🧵

This this this 👇 If someone can offer any valid reason for requesting letters for ALL applicants, I'm all ears. I've been on plenty of search committees and cannot find a reason.

Hey search committees, requiring letters of recommendation prior to an interview is wasteful. The competitive job market means applying to 30+ jobs. It’s not fair to my LORs, especially if you aren’t serious about hiring me. Continued in comments
