Oklahoma plans to kill Richard Glossip on May 18. The state's own attorney general has said that this would be a "grave injustice," but other people in Oklahoma are determined to go ahead and kill him. Sound crazy? Keep reading; it gets crazier.

Exhibit A of why trying to control an economy is a farce

Less than a year ago. Loretta Mester, head of the Cleveland Fed, has never held a job outside of the Federal Reserve. She has been a professional economist at the Fed since 1985.

!!! Friday Night Surprise. Plaintiffs just filed their response to Facebook in my favorite case - what I call the mother of all lawsuits - in Delaware where it's incorporated. It's a tight but absolutely delicious 120 pages so I'll break down the allegations here for you. /1

This is just awesome. I’ve been thinking about this off/on for WEEKS (months?) w/out being able to put a fine point on it. Now I find this and it makes sense. Thinking in terms of PPT makes me feel like I don’t really understand what I’m talking about. Bezos knew this for YEARS

OK, just had a peak teaching experience teaching Tufte's classic mega-rant, "The Cognitive Style of Powerpoint", in my Tech & Design Ethics class. It went SO GOOD and I kinda want to teach it in my intro ethics class now. And I get it way more deeply? Thread/story:

Their approach is a school-of-fish strategy. They mindlessly mouth the conventional wisdom. When they’re wrong, they’re all wrong together. Who coulda known? But any individual who did know, and said so, can be singled out for opprobrium. It’s all about conformity, not truth.

The people calling for crackdowns against “misinformation” are themselves the largest purveyors of it. They want Assange in jail and all popular critics of officialdom removed from the Internet, so they can have total freedom to lie about health policy, war, corruption, etc.

America is 2 separate economies

We may see bifurcation of INFLATION affecting poorest Americans: food, rent, fuel, consumer staples📈 While other categories consumer discretionary, home design, furniture, tech already pulled forward—seeing massive sales, inventory liquidations, deflationary price declines 📉

Great chart tying tech valuation to easy monetary policy

Hotel proforma benchmarking

Ok #HotelTwit, let’s talk benchmarking! We’ll look at each department from the Summary P+L and talk about how we compare it to like hotels, and why. This’ll get us to be able to do a “quick & dirty” proforma, which we’ll do for a real hotel next week

Lessons in home reno

For a SFH, punch list items are so small, you won't notice - outlet plates changed? - Door stops installed? - ALLLLL outlets working? - Hot water comes outta ALLL taps - Ceiling fans not loose - door locks work - New stove plugs into right outlet - Shoe mold in etc etc etc

Deal sourcing story

Sometimes finding great deals are as easy as scrolling Facebook while getting your haircut! 😜 The story of how I found the Kolo Apartments site that was later voted one of the top 10 new apartment projects in Minnesota in 2020. 👇🏼👇🏼

AC hotel uw

1/35 Ok, so by popular request, a quick desktop look at this potential hotel redevelopment found by @harrisonfinberg I'm skipping some steps that either don't lend themselves to narrative or are the artistic flourish of underwriting.
