“A lot of victims are now saying it’s all very well him going, but what about the others who were responsible for letting this man getting away with it?” @CathyNewman says the abuse scandal shaking the Church of England “doesn’t end” with the Archbishop's resignation. @CalumAM

Historian Dan Snow @thehistoryguy got a life!!!!! On @TimesRadio

Historian Dan Snow says he is “cool” with historical inaccuracies in Ridley Scott’s new film Gladiator II. Scott told him to “get a life” when he pointed out inaccuracies in the director’s last film Napoleon. @CathyNewman | @TheHistoryGuy | #TimesRadio

👀 @PennyMordaunt signalling a political comeback on The Ladder on @TimesRadio

“I don't think that politics and I are done...I would love to come back.” @PennyMordaunt doesn’t rule out a potential future leadership bid to @CathyNewman, but says Kemi Badenooch has "all the right ingredients...to really be a superstar.”

Top guests on @timesradio from 4: @DougOfSkye & @DrEricDing on Trump's cabinet picks; John Smyth survivor Richard Gittins on the @churchofengland abuse story; @thehistoryguy on burying the hatchet with Ridley Scott; @JoJohnsonUK on universities funding crisis AND @PennyMordaunt

Since 2017 @JustinWelby & @churchofengland have been at pains to point out to me that John Smyth was not “subject to the authority” of the established Church…

Further to this and after much comment on here the latest report to the General Synod from @churchofengland Redress Committee sets it out churchofengland.org/sites/default/… See photo below too:

Unless the @churchofengland changes the rules, documents seen by @Channel4News suggest Smyth victims may not be eligible for financial compensation from the £150m redress fund. Watch my exclusive report here (produced by the indefatigable @clairesinka ) channel4.com/news/smyth-sca…

We bid for @pmounstephen yesterday and the request still stands

@cathynewman please interview @pmounstephen about redress in the Church of England to set right the distress caused by the words of Ian Paul! @Channel4News

So, the biggest scandal in the history of the CofE, the most prolific abuser, and @CottrellStephen admits he did not read Bleeding for Jesus by Andrew Graystone or watch Ch4 ?The detail of the horror has been in the public domain for 7 years @cathynewman Extraordinary ignorance

#today Archbishop Cottrell just said he read the Makin report with ‘shock’ WHAT? Has he been comatose all these years? This has been in the public domain for ages and survivors have been battering at the Archbishops door non-stop. Not acting equates to not caring.

“16.21 John Smyth is, arguably, the most prolific serial abuser to be associated with the Church of England.“ “Systemic failure in safeguarding”. Welby apologises and resigns. £1m+ on a Review, but Ian Paul says we are not CofE. Obnoxious, vile, offensive, nauseous. @cathynewman

BREAKING: victims of John Smyth’s abuse may not be eligible for financial compensation from the @churchofengland “redress” fund because of a legal loophole @Channel4News reveals. Victims have reacted with fury.

Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin tells @cathynewman she accepts Justin Welby's resignation, but more must be done to solve "the root of the problem", which she says is "the impoverished interpretation of scriptures." Read and watch here: channel4.com/news/archbisho…

Seven years ago, @Channel4News exposed the abuse by John Smyth of over 100 boys and young men. After a review accused the Church of England of a 'cover up', the Archbishop of Canterbury resigned. Victims say it isn't enough. More from @cathynewman: channel4.com/news/archbisho…

Well remembered!

There are reports Peter Mandelson may be the UK's new Ambassador to the US. In 2019 my Ch 4 film on Jeffrey Epstein, with @cathynewman , reported an intriguing encounter with Mandelson while Epstein was serving jail time in 2008/9. Epstein called him "Petie"

Cathy Newman Reposted

Nothing changes an institution more than a Redress Scheme. The scrutiny, the accountability, the unpleasant experience of having to fairly pay victims, all this teaches an institution about safeguarding better and truer than any number of public statements can ever do.

Cathy Newman Reposted

What the bishops can do is use their position in the House of Lords and support a bill for mandatory reporting of child abuse. Why is this not being mentioned? A major IICSA recommendation

Resignations won’t fix the @churchofengland Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin tells me on @Channel4News tonight. A supporter of @JustinWelby she says he’ll be feeling deep sadness. Watch:

Named in my report last night

Who precisely are these bishops. The time for openness and naming has arrived. @SewellMartin can you help - which bishops are cricitised in the makin review?
