“Cup is good Bat. Cup is real good.”❤️

Carbery was as angry as I’ve seen him after tonight’s loss to TOR. “The second half of the game I thought, yeah, not good at all. Embarrassing, for that matter. The way that that game played out, just embarrassing. Flat out unrecognizable from our team,” he said. #Caps

Raddysh, Strome and Protas scored for the #Caps, but the Auston Matthews-less Maple Leafs rallied late and won 4-3 in OT. Thompson made 31 saves. WSH got outshot 18-7 in the 3rd period, which saw TOR score twice. Next up: at COL on Friday.

This loss is an important opportunity for Carbery to teach this group what it takes to get over the line in big games. Too much turtling, lack of discipline, and getting too cute with the empty net. If this team is going to contend for a cup, it needs to close these games out.

NHL league ranks after ~ 20% of the season.

Not a high risk move, but this was not at all what I was hoping for regarding the 3LC spot. The biggest issue would be giving Eller a jersey every night regardless of his play. Hopefully Carbery can get the most out of him.

NEWS | The Washington Capitals have acquired forward Lars Eller from the Pittsburgh Penguins for Washington’s third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft and a fifth-round pick (originally from Chicago) in the 2025 NHL Draft. #ALLCAPS | @Shift4

Just realized Dylan Strome has become a star. He took the nearly 10 year scenic route to get there but he got there! That 2015 draft just keeps giving.

Up 8-1 in the second game of a back to back is crazy. A shaky first period, but this was exactly what was needed after a bad loss.

Could not be more spot on, and another flat start today. Not good enough from most of the players on the ice so far tonight.

Spencer Carbery tells reporters pregame that he feels the Capitals have been getting away from their game over the last few games, starting with Nov. 2 against Columbus. Tonight, he wants to see them get back to their identity they established to open the year. #ALLCAPS

Good to see Carbery taking accountability here, at least to some extent. It is not sustainable to be playing forwards 5-10 minutes a night. If a forward isn’t good enough to play at least 12-15 minutes every game, find someone who is.

Carbery says Milano was “okay” in Carolina, but it wasn’t a “fair evaluation” given he skated just 5:37 minutes. Wanted him to get another chance to show what he can do. Takes accountability for not giving him more time.

Alex Ovechkin on the #Caps wearing the black screaming eagle unis tomorrow: “I love it. The fans love it. Best jersey in the NHL.”

It’s starting to get concerning that our “3rd” line is being played 5-10 minutes a night (outside of Mangiapane). Both Lapierre and Milano looked good tonight, no reason to limit their minutes. This sort of disparity in ice time isn’t sustainable.

The Caps’ trouble with handling high pressure has been exposed a bit tonight. Need to show more poise in the 3rd period, and Carbery certainly needs to address this if this group is going to be able to make a run.

Alex Ovechkin extends his goal streak to four games (5g). It marks his seventh goal of the season and the 860th of his career.

I don’t know if there’s a team in the league that plays on the edge more than Carolina. Not that they’re necessarily dirty, but you could call a hook, hold, interference, etc., on almost every single shift. Hard work is their identity, but they get away with so much.

As expected, PLD is due for more goals (as well as assists). He’s revolutionized the Caps top 6 so far.

Dubois has been unreal so far. When the points follow, the league will be on notice, but he’s doing more than enough for the team right now. What a trade by GMBM.

Hey, here's something... Among players with 100+ minutes of ice time, Pierre-Luc Dubois ranks second in the NHL in expected goals-for percentage (72.08). Who's third? Alex Ovechkin (72 percent). Who's seventh? Tom Wilson (69.73). That's three #ALLCAPS  in the top-10.
