7/29/22 marked the 2 year anniversary of the neck surgery to remove lymph nodes which led to my throat cancer diagnosis a week later. I celebrated the long road to recovery with a 100 mile bike ride on 7/30/22. It’s been a helluva a ride! 💯🚴‍♂️🙏 #cancersurvivor

Today I had a 6 month followup w/my RadOnc. It’s been 2.25 yrs since treatment ended. I treated myself with a ride. Mile by mile, I’ve been cycling more & more. Good for the body, even better for my mind. We need to start small, but start, and never stop. #cancersurvivor

Over 2 yrs from end of treatment, I had a head MRI yesterday to ID causes for the onset of dizziness & ringing in my ears. If I’m anything, I’m a self-advocate & encourage others to share any/all symptoms to your care team & check it all out. #cancersurvivor #uniteagainstcancer

Sharing research about treating Radiation Fibrosis in SCC Head & Neck patients with #Pravastatin. My doc at Emory put me on it this year. Please discuss with your docs and maybe we can lessen one (serious) side effect of our treatment. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30776452/#canc#radiationfibrosis

I’m training this AM for the 50 Mile Lobo Cancer Challenge Ride on 9/24. But first, HUGE shoutout to Duncan, Robin and more for your generous gifts. Support me and the UNM Cancer Center at lobocancerchallenge.org/participant/24… #lobocancerchallenge #uniteagainstcancer #cancersurvivor

In 1 week I’ll be at the UNM Stadium with other cancer survivors ready to roll 🚴 to raise money for the UNM Cancer Center. Please donate at lobocancerchallenge.org/participant/24… Any gift amount from $1 to $___ will help. #LoboCancerChallenge #UniteAgainstCancer #CancerSurvivor

Out on my bike finding new trails is my happy place. Today’s 80 miler was my “Gratitude Ride” because exactly 2 years ago I was recovering from throat surgery to find my primary tumor before radiation and chemo began. I’m in a WAY better place today. #cancersurvivor

Truth!

Cancer taught me that most people are fucking babies when it comes to minor illnesses.

Cancer patients don’t “lose” the “battle”. Cancer treatments fail. Modern medicine fails. People do not.

If you’re in the age range to get this vaccine, do it. I was not, and was diagnosed with Stage II HPV+ SCC of the pharynx Aug 2020. No evidence of disease now, but the treatment path to get to that was brutal.

Men: HPV affects you as well! Males can suffer from HPV-related cancers, but it's not too late to protect yourself! Ask your doctor about the HPV vaccine to protect you from HPV-related cancers!

Spot on article, Meghan. The open ended offer indeed put the burden on me and my wife. Best help was when a friend just said “I am sending or doing _____” #cancer #cancerawareness

When a loved one is diagnosed with #cancer, it can be really tough to figure out what to do to help. I wrote this piece for @myonevillage to give some suggestions of concrete actions you can take to show up for someone going through cancer. onevillage.io/advice-and-sup…

Diagnosed at 53…wishing I had opportunity to get HPV vax to bypass the pain and side effects of surgery, chemo, and radiation. But grateful for the NED results so far and eager to find ways to help newly diagnosed patients navigate the choppy waters ahead. #cancersurvivor

Dear @MayoClinic: I know #HPV can cause #CervicalCancer, but recently I’ve heard it also can lead to #ThroatCancer. How common is throat cancer caused by HPV? How effective is treatment for it? Dr. Eric Moore answers: mayocl.in/3Emr3xi #gyncsm #HPVcancer

All too true & heartbreaking personal stories @TCF_Foundation For me, engaging with Speech Pathologists even BEFORE my surgery and start of #radiotherapy was instrumental to keeping me swallowing at all. #throatcancer #cancerawareness #cancersurvivor #speechpathology

What a fabulous article @JulieMcCrossin My questions to my oncologists empowered me. I was not a “victim” to my treatment, I was an active partner in my treatment. #cancerawareness #cancersurvivor #throatcancer
