Wow... From Nov 1st @nature is publishing reviewer reports and author responses for ALL research articles. Do you think it's a good step? #OpenScience go.nature.com/3NlP8Ke
In my next life I’m going to study birds 🐦
I'm very happy to present our "Protocol to record multiple interaction types in small social groups of birds" (doi.org/10.1016/j.xpro…), also known under its working title: "How I panicked about statistics in the middle of the desert". @amiyaal @KeynanOded @ArabianBabblers
Although the number of unread emails in my mailbox is definitely more substantial, the total of my read emails is also wild. In other words, when I was a kid, I never expected that I would read so many emails in my adult life. Cheers for your email accomplishment today! 🎉
“I’m not very intelligent,” he once told me, with droll self-deprecation. “I’m very provincial. I go to bed at ten. I never go to any sort of chic situation. And I keep finding interesting ideas.” nplusonemag.com/online-only/on… @nplusonemag
We are very sorry to hear of the passing of Bruno Latour. A singularly animated and incisive scholar, Latour brought many younger scholars into STS and took ideas from STS to many other contexts and audiences
Opinion: Academics can consider dancing more and that may alleviates the epidemic of low-back pain. I have been careful to not develop it but my shoulders are often stiff. Looking for a dance genre that moves shoulders a lot 💃🏻
Opinion: Complex system is a pretty handy concept. You can blame all the unexpected episodes in your life on emergence.
⛓What do modular software supply chains mean for "Ethical AI"? Developers release discrete modules, or compose existing modules into finished AI systems. @dawnnafus and I show that this makes it hard to imagine or take responsibility for AI harm. 📄: arxiv.org/abs/2209.09780
had the opportunity to write about gaslighting for @sciam and i’m so excited to see it in print! scientificamerican.com/article/how-ga…
I started to get that now acting in an anti-coronavirus-transmission manner is like those who do their recycling well and self-opt out consuming goods with non-recyclable packaging.
Today’s mind-blowing moment 🤯: when I found that C.S. Holling actually cited Steward Brand in one piece of his work 😶🌫️ (let me hang on with my nerdy heartbeat 💓…)
Fascinating. I got my copy, too. I like artificial analogies of software (recalling Simon’s work for a moment). Another aspect can be that while a “living” building is like a popular software project, a museum can be some retired, archived, but magnificent software piece.
Sometimes you need shower thoughts to solve your longstanding problem. That’s why we need to procrastinate (waiting for them to know on the door! 🚪).
This from @profjamesevans was worth reupping! Might interest both #crimetwitter and #statstwitter
