I don't know if that fluorescence has affected their lives, but some cicadas change color beautifully under UV light. Interestingly, brightly fluorescent spots appear at the point where their wings cross. Platypleura kaempferi #Cicada

The remarkable sight of a bloom of the planktonic zoea larvae of the long-clawed porcelain crab Pisidia longicornis in my plankton sample. With their sharp, pointed, and long spines I wondered if this abundance gives them some herd immunity from predation. @zeiss_micro

Way cool

For #spongethursday here’s a competent sponge larvae actively exploring the settlement substrate with its anterior pole. Biochemical cues from crustose coralline algae and microbial biofilm play important role in larval settlement and metamorphosis.
