2023 Caretakers Hi Everyone, We’d like to introduce ourselves. We are Dan and Emily and we feel very lucky to have been chosen as this years caretakers. On Sunday we moved onto the island for 6 months. It’ll be a big change from our previous jobs.

If you would have told me when I was a patient in a mental health crisis receiving care from a psychiatrist that I would recover & I would be an NHS psychiatrist providing care to patients I would never have believed you. Today was such an amazing day. I’m so fortunate & blessed.
I had to interrupt medical school due to a mental health crisis. I thought I’d never become a doctor. My psychiatrist however never lost hope in me. We lost contact but years later I qualified. I gave a Keynote Lecture at a conference & there he was in the audience smiling at me.
I did it! I worked 12 hour night shifts in Emergency Psychiatry during the festive period to support the service & also so people who celebrate could be with their loved ones. It was challenging but hugely rewarding. Back to ward work as usual today. Thank you for your kindness.
This Tweet is dedicated to all the patients spending the New Year on psychiatric wards away from their loved ones. Many have tragically been stigmatised & are disconnected from their families & society. This time of the year can be so lonely & isolating. Our hearts go out to you.
