I have had the pleasure of being a Governor at @FrankBarnesDeaf Children for a number of years. I stepped down as Chair this week but am still a Governor. We are fundraising for families and children who want to develop their BSL skills - see link: gofund.me/4744c5c2

I loved how @MoriartyEddie used meta comment live on BBC News. Brilliant strategy and it's sad to see it rarely being used :( translators/interpreters meta comment is your best friend. If your centre hasn't taught you what is meta comment. You should be worried.

It’s impossible to find Strictly bsl interpreted so frustrating

PSA: gender neutral sign for parents is useful but so is the M/F sign for parents too. The gender neutral sign for parents isn’t a replacement signs but an additional ‘option’ we also have M/M sign and F/F sign too.

identities and we celebrate all of these, Members said they wanted the BDA to do more to combat racism and we are very proud of the work of our EDI Strategy Group to compact racism within the Deaf community and against the Deaf community. #StandUpToRacism #NoToFarRight 🧵 2/2

I really dont understand why @SignatureDeaf thinks it’s okay for a hearing person to talk in English about BSL and about Deaf people. Representation matters to signature? I think not.

Any good interpreters in Shrewsbury area?

I loved how @NaomiBearne interpret the weight lifter story and use roleshift to convey all emotions. It’s shows how staying away from English makes BSL much more ‘alive’ and dare I say authentic I wish others interpreters and translations would do the same

I love how @lizsmithterp finger spelled ’WAR’ it’s what my parents use for ‘’War’ as well as sign for ‘War’ which serves very different purposes. Also the amount of role shifts being used is incredible. It’s so good to see that translation was ‘free’ and not following English.

I really like how movies like A Quiet Place (part one and two) normalised sign language and it’s not being sold as a ‘fetish’.

It was so wonderful watching news in my native language. Thank you @rejadam

A day of hope…

Oh how I wish people would sign ‘MP’ rather than literally sign ‘SEAT’

If you want to see cultural equivalent in action do watch @brulafu on BBC news this morning. Some brilliant examples such as tourists translated as ‘COME HOLIDAY’ he is not passing on languages problems onto us.

It really annoys me when interpreters use ‘BSL tour’ which is not the same thing . BSL tour is done in BSL and if interpreter is interpreting the tour then it’s BSL interpreted tour
