my mother got a new job at a PE owned nursing home and they’re paying her with a prepaid debit card that doesn’t let her transfer the money to an external bank account?? This country is such a scam

Anyone who tells you this is what a counter-terror operation looks like, a hostage rescue mission looks like, is gaslighting you.

Israel has made Gaza uninhabitable by design. This is not war, it is the deliberate annihilation of a people.

How does rising inequality affect parents' support of adult children? The wealthy transfer more of their wealth, poorer parents offer co-residence instead.

New #inequality paper! I find that rising inequality in the U.S. links with wider socio-economic gaps in what -and how much- economic support parents give to young adults 👵👴➡️👨‍🦱 Very happy to see this out in @SF_Journal: doi.org/10.1093/sf/soa… @uoessps @QStepEdinburgh

When ppl talk about the Darién Gap they talk numbers; the amount of ppl who have crossed, the number of ppl who didn't make it out alive, the % increase or decrease of migration through it. Rarely do they consider the humanity of those crossing. These podcasts will help 👇🏽.

I really hope you’ll take the time to listen to these.

Little is known, although much is theorized, about the long-run benefits of boosting children's social-emotional skills. Across 450 post-test & follow-up impacts from 86 RCTs, we found similar fadeout rates for intervention impacts on social-emotional & cognitive skills. 1/11

This notion of “regular and safe” pathways to protection is deployed as a means to demonize those who make their own way to seek asylum — something that international law •explicitly• allows them to do.

The notion of 'regular' and 'safe' pathways has become a bit of a mantra in migration & refugee policy circles. Let's have some more critical thinking about their potential & limitations (one being the reluctance of states to establish them, especially for people fleeing danger).

Reading accounts of how nurses’ fingers were blown and off and their faces and eyes destroyed when their pagers exploded. In hospitals. Just horrifically evil.
