Omer 8-week 2, community. It is through supportive community that we navigated the fears of the wilderness. Think about who helps you along.

@tilegge Both! Hope you had a good Challah and brisket.

On vacation until 1/5 everyone. Happy Gregorian New Year!

Perhaps this Shabbes, consider your accomplishments/talents/skills and consider when was the last time you thanked God for all that. Sh"Sh

We throw around term "God-given talent" but do we consider what that means? To realize we cannot claim sole credit for our accomplishments?

Have any of you ever discovered a hidden talent, or a skill we've honed after years of work and then given God credit for that ability?

Parashat Mikketz Pharaoh dreams and asks Joseph to interpret. P: "You're good at interpreting." J: Not I, "God sees to Pharaoh's welfare."

Shabbat, holy days, acts of kindness (visiting the sick...), even attending fundraisers, these things thicken relationships. We must show up.

When we settle near family we can assume community, but synagogue must be deliberate community. Only action creates thick relations.

Given how disconnected we are from the old world organic village of the past, we have to create our own villages. Synagogue aspires 2 that.

Like us, Genesis ancestors were mobile, and had few rooted community ties. Perhaps if they did, their families might have been a bit calmer.

Isn't that part of moving to a new place? Creating home and community and family stability? Common themes in our neck of the woods!

Parashat Vayeshev: Jacob settled in the land. Earlier in Genesis Abraham settled the land (Lech Lecha and Vayera) as did Isaac (Toledot).
