Registration is now open - and it's free! meetings.federallabs.org/2021-flc-natio…

The 2021 @federallabs National Meeting is April 6-8! Keep watching this space for more details. #Tech #TechTransfer #Innovation WHY is it important to attend? Watch this short video: youtube.com/watch?v=i-9SFR…

Mouse-model study from @Livermore_Lab and @UCDavisMedCntr suggests pre-treatment with antibiotics could reduce the rate of cartilage degeneration after ACL tear. Any of you have anecdotal experience with PTOA in patients who were already on antibiotics when injured? #federallabs

A new study from LLNL and @UCDavisMedCentr finds that antibiotic pretreatment may lead to less severe osteoarthritis after joint injuries such as a torn ACL. More at llnl.gov/news/antibioti…. @ucdavis

Big thanks to the incomparable Mojdeh Bahar for sharing T2 insights from her time with @NIH, @USDA_ARS, and most recently @NIST at the @federallabs National Meeting! #FLCNM20

How do you get buy-in from scientists for #techtransfer deals? Focus on the impact it can make on end users & patients served by innovation. "Put yourself in their shoes and see what matters to them," Mojdeh Bahar of @NIST tells FLC's Jordana Bieze Foster at #FLCNM20 #federallabs

Worlds collide! If any of you biomechanics, sports medicine, and lower extremity health experts know of other examples of technologies like this one that were commercialized with the help of federal funding or other federal resources, I'd love to hear about them.

Looked at study. No references for this measurement technique and no ICCs.

Measurement of abd strength is unique. Who measures in supine? Ability to recruit TFL (hip flex, MR, abd) + ant glut med (hip flex, MR, abd) vs post glut med (hip ext, LR, abd). Need the post fibers to limit valgus collapse and not convinced their positioning controls for this.

Jordana Bieze Foster Reposted

The hip abd result is baffling. Authors attempt to explain - acknowledge difficult given Khayambashi (AJSM, 2016).

Kinda weird way to measure hip abductor strength, no? Supine with an examiner supporting the other shoulder pelvis?

Great points. My concern was how exposure was tracked? A key component to studying risk factors for any injury. Hear more about this at SPTS TCC 2018 @ The Westgate in Las Vegas. #TCC2018

One more thing... if I'm reading the abstract correctly, the variables were only assessed prior to the first year of high school. If an ACL injury happened in year two or three, those baseline variables could have changed.

Strong hip abductors to compensate for weak quads? 🤷‍♂️

From @NanciGuestRD et al: Genetics may determine whether caffeine improves endurance performance in cyclists, decreases performance, or has no effect. ow.ly/mZKZ30iS5EJ

From @NLightPhysio et al: Hip adductor strength and flexibility decrease during the course of a soccer match, which could have implications for hip/groin injury management and recovery. ow.ly/2iZj30iS51i

Interesting I would think that greater hip abduction strength would help prevent ACL injuries

Greater BMI and hip abductor muscle strength are independent risk factors for noncontact ACL injuries in female high school basketball players. ow.ly/Y2Co30iS4o9

In rowing, as in baseball, lower extremity strength contributes to upper extremity performance. In Olympic rowers, vastus lateralis volume largely explains variance in rowing ergometer performance, sprint, and endurance capacity. ow.ly/sxZq30iS2V5

From joint position statement on implementing concussion guidelines: Sports without interchange or temporary substitution rules may be compromising player care and should consider rule changes vs adapting player evaluation to a limited on-field assessment. ow.ly/fE6s30iS2Dv

Compared to conventionally-shod individuals, individuals who are habitually barefoot or minimally shod have higher and stiffer longitudinal arches and larger abductor hallucis and abductor digiti minimi muscles. ow.ly/xnlF30iS2db
