So the rumors are true: "The Singing River" is coming out in February 2025 from @BellePointPress, featuring a stunning work from @WAMA_tweets on the cover (his 'Tern' sketch, ca. 1950-60). This collection has been brewing for years-- could not be more grateful. More news soon!

Do I still believe? Well-- let's just say that amid all my research notes and memorabilia from those days, I kept a certain little lapel pin in case the question comes back around. Distant as it may seem now-- hope springs eternal (end for real)

Ok one postscript. 10 years! Almost impossible to believe. I flew to Edina to watch the returns with my friends from The Forest arts collective, a heartbreaking night. But exhilarating: the outpouring of hope & optimism in the weeks prior to the vote unlike anything I'd ever seen

Written in the runup to the #indyref, it was a singular privilege to report on a topic that still captures my (partly Scottish) heart. Will never forget hearing Gordon Brown's no-notes speech at the @ScotParl Still grateful, esp to IASH and LARB! (2/2) lareviewofbooks.org/article/indepe…

Seeing @IASH_Edinburgh (my beloved haunt back in 2012) post about the 10-year anniversary of the Scottish independence referendum this past month, I couldn't help but dig into the archives for a piece I wrote while on that postdoc for the @LAReviewofBooks (1/2)

Single best description of AI I’ve ever read, from the great Ted Chiang.

Had a dream where one of my dear friends, a novelist, secretly wrote & recorded a folk album without telling anyone & by chance I found a copy at the record store & it was amazing, & now I've never wanted any other dream to come true more AND I have no idea how to tell her. Help!
