There’s classroom education, and there’s field education. It’s in the field where you can experience the instinctive part of the education… And there’s perhaps nothing quite as instinctive as shooting flying clay targets with a shotgun. Was even more pleased to introduce a…

Bobwhite quail are Maryland's #1 declining bird. They've been extirpated from large swaths of Maryland... But quail are not alone... our whole suite of grassland and shrubland birds are leading Maryland in declines since 1966... (see figure). Conversely, our woodland species…

A quail manager’s worst nightmare. These are the largest open grassland fields for miles. And they’re planted wall-to-wall with trees. In a few years, these fields will no longer support grassland birds, which lead our state in declining bird guilds. But it gets worse……

People often ask me what's behind the disappearance of bobwhite quail. Quail Biologist Bob Long from @MarylandDNR breaks it down for us here: Spoiler: Yes, increased predator populations have exacerbated things, but in the end, it's habitat.

This week we delivered WSN grass & forbes seed to @MarylandDNR for the Browns Branch WMA project. MD DNR-WHS professionals will convert and manage over 500 acres of early successional habitat. (In MD’s @NBGI_Bobwhite focal area). Qf’s local chapter fundraising = local impact!
