We grieve the passing of Dr. Yves Frégnac. Yves has shaped the study of cortical processing and plasticity. He heralded interdisciplinarity and was one of the founding fathers of our institute. Our thoughts go to his family and to his friends in the community and beyond.

Francesco Battaglia has been selected as Distinguished NIAS-Lorentz Fellow 2025-2026. His research focuses on understanding the role of the brain as an organ within the body and how cognition is shaped by brain-body interactions. bit.ly/47ODRwa @Francescob @NIAS_KNAW

BREAKING: LEAKED audio of Columbia University vice president Gerry Rosberg unable to respond when asked if Palestinians are human. He stated that this question was “intimidating”. Acknowledging that Palestinians are human is “intimidating rhetoric” to Columbia admin.

Thank you for saying that. It's good to see though that the general interest in neurotechnology is rising 🌟

Doing some interviews in the media, I discovered that many believe that @neuralink's is the first neural interface implanted in humans in history. Folks: it's the first for Neuralink. Not the first ever. Neural implants in humans have been going on for almost 30 years!

I see we are getting to the stage of the discussion where people are starting to defend UMAP saying it can 'reveal patterns' or 'structure' in the data. Without ever specifying what precisely these patterns/structures represent. This is not surprising because hardly anybody 1/n

Thoughtful, well-informed counterpoint on the use of UMAP for visualising human genetic data, following the intense debate about the All Of Us paper this week.

here with @bsotomayor_ and @battaglialab we show that a spike-based code, based on relative spike-timing relations extracted using optimal transport measures, encodes natural videos more precisely than a rate-based code - without representational drift! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
