This is playing out against the backdrop of the reforms to criminal justice reforms for sexual assault in Switzerland. Lawmakers put the kibosh on tougher sentences offenders, including a minimum two-year sentence (!).
At the criminal trial, a judge asked her if she couldn't have just squeezed her legs together to prevent the rape. Meanwhile, #Switzerland's highest court held that the short "duration" of a sexual assault could be a mitigating factor in sentencing (this was later "amended").
This case has everything: ignorance, misogyny, victim-blaming. The intern - 21 when he rapes her - was categorized by defense attorneys as a femme fatale who used her wiles to "start a fire she was unable to extinguish". She was exposed to the crudest treatment imaginable.
A #Swiss court spared a former judge who was convicted of raping his intern a prison term by sentencing him to 21 months, which is literally just shy of the minimum period which would trigger mandatory prison time.
