When we discuss something as serious as colonialism, it's important to understand the base meaning of the word. There are many ways that humans have colonized others over history and even to this day. #unlearn #colonialism #WordOfTheDay

Settle in with confusion. Be grateful your mind is open enough to reconsider what you thought you knew.

Can we please put an end to using food as manipluatives in math? (beans as counters, marshmallows for structures, pasta for bracelets, rice for measuring etc.) Food security is real for many of our Ss & their families. This practice is just flat out wrong on so many levels.

Educators if you spent today (and possibly tomorrow) talking about your excitement about Groundhog Day instead of Black History Month - your students noticed. Caregivers listening to online lessons noticed. Change.

As many educators are writing report cards in Ontario please remember that no caregiver or student wants to read about everything they have not or can not do, especially during a pandemic with forced emergency remote learning. Authentic asset-based language is key. 1/5

Forgive me (or don’t), but I don’t want a relationship with peoples’ egos.

All behaviour is communication of a need unmet. "You cannot punish away a need." Shame, guilt, isolation, punishment are ways that we typically respond to 'inappropriate behaviour.' Rethink how you react to another human being. No behaviour is inappropriate. Understand the why

There will be calls and temptations to meet this moment—of ongoing traumas, stressors and injustices—with mindfulness practices. But teaching students to cope inside a harmful system "can send a dangerous message." Here's how to avoid it. tolerance.org/magazine/fall-…

I am trying every day. True and lasting change requires consciousness. I’m all about that!

It is true!! AGENCY is a greater motivator than grades. There are many redistribution’s of power needed to dismantle oppressive education. #Assesspeel #peelEML

"I would argue in most classrooms, it's the teacher doing the lion's share of the work. And the person doing the work in the classroom is the person doing the learning. So why would we rob our students of the opportunity to learn?" ow.ly/6w1y50CNP8C
