This is really important The euthanasia fight is FAR from over There are enough undecided MPs to protect the old and sick, protect the soul of the medical profession, and protect life Let’s keep fighting! (And please RT/encourage others!)

This analysis shows there is a clear path toward assisted suicide Bill being defeated at 3rd Reading. At least 36 MPs who supported the Bill made it clear they did so only to allow further debate / have concerns that mean they won’t commit to support the Bill at 3rd Reading.…

2/3 ethnic minority MPs voted against assisted suicide. As @FloEshalomi said powerfully in Friday's debate, "We must recognise the hard truth that health inequalities are wide and persistent." This Bill is a threat to those whose wellbeing is regularly overlooked by the state.

I don’t know if the politicians claiming that the euthanasia bill has “robust safeguards” are lying or just irredeemably incompetent Either way, they are sending a clear signal to NEVER EVER trust them with anything important to you

Every single one of the 350+ disability rights groups in the UK united to oppose Assisted Suicide. But Parliament did not listen.

🚨DR UK's Statement on Passing of Assisted Dying Bill We stand firmly against a law that risks pressuring Disabled people into decisions driven by lack of options rather than genuine choice. This bill could reinforce the narrative that Disabled people’s lives are less valuable.

Already I am being contacted by people vulnerable to suicide, who are terrified that the State Suicide Service - whether in the proposed form or the inevitable revisions - is coming for them. I am truly disgusted at what this country is saying to those who are vulnerable.

" Pourquoi vouloir tromper alors ?

History will not be kind to the MPs who backed assisted dying Before MPs voted to support the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, Kim Leadbeater, who has sponsored the bill, rose on a point of order. There were murmurs in the House. Then Leadbeater said, a little…

There is not a majority for the assisted suicide Bill. I'm confident that even the minimal scrutiny it'll get in Committee will be enough to reveal its inadequacies. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

As much as I'm concerned about the risks of coercion and pressure in any assisted suicide law, there's a much more fundamental issue. When we create an option of death, people have to justify not taking it. Jonathan Herring puts it like this:

TL;DR: assisted suicide support is higher amongst the Labour MPs who represent less deprived areas. As with race, so with social inequality more broadly: those MPs representing communities most vulnerable to assisted suicide seem less likely to support it.

I've asked a colleague who teaches stats in the University to run constituency deprivation scores and assisted suicide votes through some independent statistical analysis. The results are quite interesting. Here, for example, are how Labour MPs split on assisted suicide:

“It’s a very, very over-engineered bill… Parts of it read like the protocol for an execution.” Involving the judiciary in assisted dying turns a personal matter into “a form of state-licensed killing”, says former Supreme Court Justice Lord Sumption. @KateEMcCann | #TimesRadio

I’m biased because I agree, but @danny__kruger’s was honestly the best speech – best conclusion to one, anyway – I have heard from any living parliamentarian. Key passage:
