My article in @TheStatesmanLtd on the urgent need for Indian #IITs to secure funding for AI #research. Inspired by @IsabelleBiscuit's piece in @WSJ, I explore the need for Indian universities, the govt. and the pvt sector to keep up with global #AI advancements

It’s 11/11, Fyodor Dostoevsky’s birthday. Here's a thread that delves into the complexities of the human soul through the wisdom of one of the greatest writers of all time 🧵 1. "Your worst sin is that you have destroyed and betrayed yourself for nothing."

Best wishes to Amartya Sen on Nov 3 as he turns 91. I owe him my career switch from law to economics. Photos from memory lane with Jorgen Weibull in Santiniketan with Suman Ghosh in Santiniketan with Alaka, Siddiq, Lata, Tehmina in our Delhi home & with my students at Cornell.

It was an absolute privilege to interview you Dr. Luis Felipe López-Calva during the “World at a Turning Point” conference. Your journey is an inspiration to many and your talk on poverty & inequality had a lot that we can learn from. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!

I had the privilege of being interviewed by Arpit Chaturvedi (@arpitchtr) and Larasati Eka Wardhani for @CornellCas This discussion took place during the CRADLE conference (@EinaudiCenter), "The World at a Turning Point," and it was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on my…

I sat down to interview Dr. Pedro Conceicao, Director of the Human Development Report @UNDP - check it out here.

"Even if a country implements all the right policies, … it is still vulnerable to shocks," says @pedrotconceicao, director of the UN's Human Development Report Office. He speaks with us this week as part of our "The World at a Turning Point" conference. einaudi.cornell.edu/discover/news/…

In class 9, at @mayoboys I auditioned for the prestigious Prize Giving annual play. Didn’t get selected. Stuck around as a spot boy. Then one of the main characters dropped out mid way. I was given the role with one month to prepare. Gave a memorable performance! Lesson learned.

Younger folks—interns fresh out of undergrad—are surprisingly comfortable doing work and sharing files via @instagram Interesting trend. Who knows, one day Instagram might just become the next productivity & office tool! #WorkCulture #TechTrends #Instagram

India's youth struggle more with access to capital than jobs. Startups are getting funded, but how many young people really understand the game? Unlike in the US, where undergrads do. India's VC sector is still nascent—this needs to be a national priority. #Startups #Youth #India

Someone should research the rise of micro-thinktanks in India, especially during and just before Covid. We were early adopters, but what impact have we made? How has this new sector shaped policy and culture? It’s a growing asset and deserves attention. #Policy #Research #India

The #publishingindustry fascinates me. Barely profitable, driven more by prestige than function. A few top players dominate, but self-publishing is growing. It's a slow-moving industry with huge output, yet minus the top 1% of books, there are more authors than readers.

Lots of data that shows that #presidentialdebates hardly sway the votes. However, the culture of the two lead candidates discussing policy & political stances with each other elevates the overall political culture and the spirit of democracy. Something we could adopt in India.
