Today I’m sharing a deeply personal story of grief – the kind that is usually unfortunately swept under the rug. The grief of pregnancy loss. #pregnancylossawareness #PAILNetwork #pregnancyloss #Grief #miscarriage #latemiscarriage #missedmisscarriage A THREAD

I successfully defended my PhD thesis today! Special thanks to this amazing dissertation committee (not in the photo: @vpmurty @megschlichting) for the insightful questions. I truly had a great time and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end this PhD journey :)

🎆 New paper 🎆 journals.sagepub.com/eprint/KBTKGPP… Why do children remember less than adults, when they can weirdly form complex, adult-like memories in many moments? In a new paper, we show this is because of the instability of their attention! We tracked attentional fluctuations...

At last, the final version is out! Very excited about the potential implications of this work for the assessment and treatment of disorders of emotion. I’m also excited about our current follow-up studies. Any feedback is most welcome! rdcu.be/doK9K

Human emotions ebb and flow across time. But how do these fluctuations influence the organization of memory? We used custom 🎶 and a new emotion tracking tool 🧭 to show that memories are segmented and organized around dynamic emotional states! psyarxiv.com/8hpwy

I'm so excited to share this work with @mariam_s_aly and @ChrisBaldassano! We explore how memory for temporal structure changes with consolidation to support multistep anticipation. Make sure to read to the end for some fun RT modeling! ✨️ psyarxiv.com/x2f7s

How are memories transformed over time to enable anticipation of the future? With consolidation, multistep anticipation becomes more efficient but less perceptually detailed. Proud of @hannahtstoll for leading this collaboration w/ @ChrisBaldassano! psyarxiv.com/x2f7s

Attending #CNS2023? Come hear my data blitz in Session 3 (Bayview Room) starting soon! I’ll talk about how we can use cover stories to induce motivational states and boost either short-term reinforcement learning or long-term memory formation.

Are you going to #CNS2023? If yes, stop by my poster on Tuesday morning (F46, 8-10am) and say hi! Not going but still want to see some cool new findings about hippocampal subfields? Check out my poster below!

It always feels trite to call something bittersweet, but I'm not sure that there's a better word to describe how I feel about sharing this paper. This project is so special to me, in so many ways, largely because of my co-first author Sarah DuBrow journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/09…

Our society's hyper-focus on productivity means that we generally consider losing focus a bad thing. In a new paper, we challenge this notion by asking whether losing focus can sometimes be good for learning, and where our mind goes when we lose it 🧵 rdcu.be/c1uHF

How does the ebb and flow of emotions throughout the day influence how and what we remember? How can we boost, weaken, or update memories that matter? Interested in finding the answers with fMRI/eyetracking? If so, we're recruiting new grad students! clewettlab.psych.ucla.edu

This month, I am celebrating one year of being mostly migraine-free, thanks to monthly injections of CGRP antibodies. To celebrate, here's a thread about the coping strategies that I took for years. I hope it raises awareness about the challenges migraineurs face every day.
