I think one of my least favorite cat myths is that they think we are their servants. Why? Because we have to feed them and clean their litter box? They can't do those things themselves! We are their caretakers.

It always shocks me when faculty are surprised that graduate students experience food insecurity, because it’s always been my reality and that of others. We also look out for one another while institutions brag about their fundraising $$$ while students are literally starving.
If you run graduate admissions and you are expecting your applicants to already be exceptionally skilled scientists, you are not running a training program - you are recruiting cheap labor to be exploited.
Something they don’t tell you about academia is that you’ll be 30 years old and still wearing a backpack everywhere you go. @AcademicChatter @PostdocVoice

2 years ago today I got told by a professor that I was "a bad investment for any PI". I'm STILL dealing with the emotional damage from that as I'm sitting here TWO YEARS LATER. Please, IDC WHY you would want to, but don't ever say things like that to grad students, period.
