Earlier: Censorship worked by withholding information. Now: Censorship now works by distracting people, with too much information. Attention is the most scarce resource of all. With time, it's becoming more and more difficult to block the noise and separate truth form fiction.

“The general problem with ambitious systems is complexity.”, “...it is important to emphasize the value of simplicity and elegance, as complexity has a way of compounding diculties” - Excrept from a research paper on Software Crisis and System Complexity
It is much easier to strive for perfection, when you are never bored.
you are going to get influenced by the algorithm, like it or not. might as well pick who do you get influenced by.
The way you innovate or build solutions that have impact has a lot to do with understanding what are the recent changes and possibilities that are enabled by internal platforms and tools, something that's very hard to do when working remote even if you've high bias towards action
Seems like getting off your ass and getting shit done is about to be back in style.
in an technology first economy, real rewards are reserved not for those who know how to use Facebook, rater for those who are comfortable building the innovative distributed systems that run the service.
if you organise your life in such a way that you get lots of long, consecutive uninterrupted time chunks you can do meaningful work. If instead you get interrupted a lot, meaningful work gets replaced by a bunch of e-mail messages sent out to individuals which no one cares about.
Bravery is a muscle, it’s something that can be practiced. Confidence and chances you take on yourself, taking a bet on yourself is how you start to train that muscle. Don’t say no to yourself first when faced with challenging tasks, let someone else say no to you.
A tragedy of many tech companies is that diligent work that enables a flawless launch is taken for granted but heroic effort that fixes a botched launch is loudly lauded.
Stronger the tech company you work for more ambiguous the problems get. Defining the problem statement, communicating it clearly to deliver something, ability to disambiguate the hazy problems is one of the most hard things to pin down when beginning a project.
‘focus hours’ are such a funny concept for engineers. yeah im angy no talk to me im doing very important clickyclaky.
This is why docs, clean architecture & onboarding is important. Sometimes you can’t make everyone happy, unhappy people leave. Smart people outgrow your company. And hell there is the diabolical bus factor too. Maintain the code in a way that any good engineer can pick it up.1/n
There are many people in leadership positions at tech companies that don’t understand: Codebases without the people that wrote the code are just a liability, not an asset.

discomfort is a feature not a bug. if something is hard, it's probably worth taking a shot at. difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations. - someone smarter than me
