The thing is, without assisted dying, you can still commit suicide. There is a way out. It just isn’t implemented by the state and society isn’t actively endorsing it. It also means it really is entirely your decision, rather than you being made to feel like you are a burden

Two seasons, two CL newcomers, same story…… #nufc & #avfc ambitions crushed by PSR. Meanwhile, “elite” clubs swim in debt and splurge. Fair competition or calculated suppression @premierleague ? ⚽️💸

No, trouble is MAID is a part of a government bureaucracy, not an intimate experience between ethical surgeon and patient. In practice 40% euthanized are involuntary patients and of those 80% are declared mentally incompetent. Sit and have a real good fucking think about that.

Dutch authorities approved Zoraya, 29, to be euthanised. Why? Because she had depression, anxiety, trauma, and a personality disorder. In other words, they pushed her off the bridge. Disgraceful. 🇳🇱

As much as I'm concerned about the risks of coercion and pressure in any assisted suicide law, there's a much more fundamental issue. When we create an option of death, people have to justify not taking it. Jonathan Herring puts it like this:

Can we please have an Assisted Living Bill for people with disabilities and those who are terminally ill or suffering from severe mental illness to live lives as full as possible, provided by the state with dignity, care and respect? #AssistedLivingBill

Angus Cameron Reposted

what’s up for debate tomorrow is the social consensus that life is always preferable to death. if we abandon this, we make suicide just one of a number of reasonable responses to suffering and irreversibly undermine the central principle of suicide prevention

So let's be very clear: Westminster plans to introduce assisted suicide on the NHS while doing nothing to fix the rotting social care system that wrecks so many lives of sick, elderly and disabled citizens (and often their families) through its inadequacy

Next time anyone says "but it's getting better for disabled people" I will punch them so hard they'll time travel. Today we saw the first step in the ultimate solution to disability & illness, nice, cheap & easy. Next stop Logan's Run.

Some hard questions which the media have failed to ask @kimleadbeater:   1. You’ve said feeling like “a burden” could be a “legitimate” reason to ask for an assisted suicide. How common do you think it is for terminally ill people to feel like a burden?   2. If somebody asks for…

I am a doctor and I have a disability I am telling you without a shadow of a doubt Doctors do NOT have the time or the understanding to protect disabled people from assisted suicide Doctors will be killing vulnerable disabled people if this bill passes

I once witnessed a Do Not Resuscitate conversation as follows: - Consultant informed by junior team that one patient "needs a DNAR" - note that the reasons are rarely discussed in any detail at all - Doctor approaches bed on ward round, in bay in view of other patients

Genuine question - why doesn't the line use the obvious colours, for a movement which unusually put a particular, and well-known, colour combination at the heart of its campaign? G(reen)ive W(hite)omen the V(iolet)ote

Assisted suicide really is gender 2.0 Insisting you don't call it "assisted suicide" really is "gender affirming care" 2.0. Sorry if you don't like the term suicide Kim, but this is a person choosing to end their own life and that's called suicide.

Kim Leadbeater on R4 right now: "I find the term Assisted Suicide offensive" Well sorry for offending you with the fact of what you are pushing! If you can't own what you are pushing, withdraw the bill.

A person with only 6 months to live is not "useless" Matthew. To those that love such a person those 6 months may be the most precious and perhaps "useful" space of time they can ever measure. Even if not, encouraging people to think of their time this way is plain wrong.

These are the people leading the charge for the assisted suicide movement. Evil. Pure evil.

**Assisted Dying** Friday's parliamentary vote on @kimleadbeater's Private Member's Bill risks introducing such a profound change to the fabric of society. While I understand that the subject is highly emotive, I believe the risks associated with legalising assisted suicide far…

We are being told that euthanasia works well in other countries In this case, the doctor asked the family to hold down the woman who resisted being euthanised - so he could euthanise her. He also tried spiking her drink with lethal drugs.
