If you haven’t had a chance to read Paul Thomas’ brilliant words, please do so now & share widely: Science backs balanced teaching of reading, not intensive phonics “... the “science of reading” movement is causing far more harm than good.” @plthomasEdD statehousereport.com/2022/01/21/my-…

And we have the knowledge to change this- do we have the will?

Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve. (Lewin,n.d.)

Q7 Be available, honest, approachable. I'll continue with my daily email about our DL day or our in person day, if we get there. I'll keep the resources and technology workable as they could be overwhelming. #MathCollaborative #MathCollabChat

A6 - Since there is limited amount of time at BTSN, I will engage the parents in a number talk as this is the sense making routine that demonstrates the most variety of strategies and ways of thinking about a problem. #MathCollaborative #MathCollabChat

A5 I will explain that everyone is in the same boat and they need to trust me to take their child from where they are, understanding that we all loss months of school. I will keep them undated on the progress I am seeing and how they can help. #MathCollaborative #MathCollabChat

A2 - Making sure parents and students know that I am here for them and that this is new for all of us. I'm going to try to get to know each family individually and I want them to get to know me too.

Q1 -I will have a weekly parent zoom meeting to answer questions and get to know each other - Emphasizing that we are in this journey together. I'll use this time demonstrate our number sense activities and practice them with the parents. #MathCollaborative #MathCollabChat

It’s not selfish for educators to bring up concerns about exposure to COVID-19. It’s not even self-care. It’s basic self-preservation. And that’s often motivated by the human desire to be alive for our loved ones. Saying, “I want to live” shouldn’t be a controversial stance.

Q4 - I'd love to hear ideas from all of you on what you will be doing as this is very important for us to be aware of. #mathcollabchat

A3 - Using a platform like Seesaw so my 2nd graders can demonstrate their ideas and understanding about problems/routines in a way they are comfortable responding and the S can learn from each other's responses. #mathcollabchat
