Decision issued today—we won! The Chief didn’t act in a procedurally fair way and my client gets a new hearing into her complaint about sexts she received from a cop investigating her domestic abuse concern 🎉🎉
As a final layer of salt in her wounds, the LERB has now allowed the delay in rendering its decision to stretch three times its normal span. No one disagrees that the behaviour she experienced in Feb 2021 was wildly inappropriate. When will she see some accountability? (8/end)
A great point, and if you’re watching from the rest of Canada a great place to send your donations is Egale (egale.ca)
If you live in #yyc there's no time like the present to show your support for trans youth and their well-being by donating to Skipping Stone. They shouldn't have to suffer to please the UCP base. #ableg #abpoli skippingstone.ca
A very useful thread. It’s on, and we are about to need to pull out all the stops to fight for trans kids in Alberta. 💪
Alberta’s anti-trans bills have dropped. A few observations. 🧵 The first thing I notice, and which is cause for hope, is that the bills do not invoke the notwithstanding clause. They can thus be challenged in Court, and struck down as unconstitutional.
One of our absolute superstar grads from @UCalgaryLaw @amymatychuk is deeply committed to social justice lawyering and does our law school and profession proud.

if they don’t reply to your email last thing on a Friday, email them repeatedly over the weekend.
If your lawyer doesn't respond to you within 45 minutes, you should absolutely threaten to call the bar. This will not only improve response time but also strengthen your working relationship! Follow me for more hacks
I sent @JesseBrown an unsubscribe email, never got a response. For the record, if I’m one of his 1300, what I actually said to him was, “I believe that no militia in the world is justified in killing children. I wish I felt confident that you did too.”
According to this Reddit user, @JesseBrown sent out an email today complaining Canadaland has lost 1,300 subscribers for “documenting anti-Jew hatred.” Now he wants money to turn accusing people of antisemitism into a “limited investigative series”. reddit.com/r/canadaland/s…
It’s so fun to be having a baby in Alberta, where they want to limit my right to not have a baby, but if I do have one the govt encourages the general public to feel absolutely 0 responsibility to keep the baby from getting very sick with preventable diseases
Measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, diphtheria, polio, tetanus all pose significant risks to children, especially babies under 6 months. Alberta will actively endanger the health of small children as a legitimate tradeoff against the right to imbibe disinformation.
It’s telling that the only actual example cited was from Ontario (Jordan Peterson). You’d think that if @mickeyamery is right and there are “many” AB examples of professionals being sanctioned for exercising their right to free speech…he could name one?
🧵 Today, Premier Smith, alongside her Justice Minister, released a video to announce a review of Alberta’s self-regulated professions to ensure they’re not “controlling personal opinions or forcing unnecessary training”. 1/10 #ableg
if I changed my name to something that sounds like an old man I bet clients would send me way fewer rude emails. Options being considered: Greg Bernie Rob Dave Mike
I read this to my husband and told him Alberta has had the most female premiers and he said “must be because Alberta is such a progressive place” and then we laughed. so that we don’t cry.
# of women premiers who've won general elections as of 10/20/2024: BC 1* (Clark) Alberta 3 (Redford, Notley, Smith) Saskatchewan 0 Manitoba* 0 Ontario 1 (Wynne) Quebec 1 (Marois) NB 0 NS 0 PEI 1 (Callbeck) NL 1 (Dunderdale) *Johnston (BC) & Stefanson (MB) never won election
put “slam dunk” in the subject line. works on us every time

NEWS: Edmonton police Const. Hunter Robinz has admitted to criminal breach of trust for soliciting sex from 8 women he met on duty — including domestic violence & sexual assault survivors & a woman he grabbed & kissed after letting himself into her home. edmontonjournal.com/news/edmonton-…
I just want to update this and say that my admin politely asked the person I was subtweeting here for some times when he was available for a phone call so they could put it in my calendar and…he never replied
Can we all just agree it’s bad lawyer etiquette to email another lawyer you’ve never conversed with before about something vague and urgent involving a shared client and demand they call you immediately
This is fun. This person has a whole blog post up about me and what a dumb idiot I am for being angry about her ragingly transphobic “NO MALES IN WOMEN’S JAILS” campaign. Now our premier is platforming her 🫠
Must read story about @eva_kurilova’s personal journey 👇 “While these “social transition” steps seem harmless, they are psychological interventions that can encourage a child to lock in their identity and proceed to more permanent changes.” Read article:…
“A spokesperson for Alberta Health said the contract was not renewed because its term had expired” That sentence is…nothing. It means “the contract was not renewed because we didn’t renew it.” wtf, @AHS_media?
Alberta family doctors have been told they won't receive flu + COVID-19 vaccines in time for the Oct 15 launch. A memo from AB Health indicates there is no distributor in place. Other publicly funded vaccines impacted (incl pertussis/tetanus) Story👇 cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…
