Here's a score construction time lapse of my piece for @SolemQuartet next Wed at @TungAuditorium I've loved composing in this semi-graphic sweet spot. It looks at performance gesture, exploring the fallacy of reverse engineering that back into the piece. Thank U @RoyalPhilSoc

I feel like I tweet into the void at the moment the way the algorithms are, but if anyone is reading this: I did a thing, and it was great, and it was with @MezzoRosie @sarahnparkin @ithasbeenlovely and @MayaRosenwasser at @LeedsUniAHC

Always comical that the @doricoofficial playback for a top C on the flute makes it sounds as breathy, forced, and bloody difficult as possible. I promise we're not that bad!

My complaint of the morning is having to play Bach on a Steinway. Like being instructed to finely dice an onion but presented with a soup spoon.

Continually amazed by Pages stubbornly opening any Microsoft Word document like an absolute crazy person. This incompatibility spans decades and would be such an easy fix and the decision to NOT DO THAT in a laughable attempt to enforce brand loyalty is just cute at this point.

Noticing how Tik Tok trends are changing the way pop songs are written. I'm seeing a lazier approach to structure these days because once you've got that 15 sec lick that people can sync to, there's no incentive to be palatable for a further 3 mins. Interested to share thoughts!

How has this made it into the final print?! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. (me, it was me I put this in)

Happy Monday to everyone but especially to me, who just wasted half an hour meeting someone online for a potential commission. It was very silly of me to assume that just because it was all organised through an assistant that there would be ANY budget for me?!

Really great to be in Berlin this week courtesy of PRS Foundation! @ClassicalNEXT is full of good creative thoughts and nice people.

PRS Foundation and @ClassicalNEXT's Fellowship Partnership scheme gives composers the opportunity to attend the Classical Next conference in Berlin. This year UK based Composers in attendance inc. @WMarsey, @amybryce & Philip Herbert. More info⬇️ prsfoundation.com/funding-suppor…

Spring has sprung and the male pigeon will puff his feathers and chase the disgruntled female pigeon and behind him, me (angry feminist unable to cope with the modern world) will chase the male pigeon screaming "HEY YOU HEARD HER, NO MEANS NO!" and then both birds fly away...

After a brief moment of insanity, you'll all be pleased to know that I've decided NOT to make art based on the 2011 diary kindly delivered by my mum the other day. The romantic drivel of a 16 yo believing they were the only person to ever fall in love will stay between Me and Me.

Enforce height order at standing gigs. School photo vibes. No one over 6ft in the front 60% of the venue. If your friend isn't within 3 inches of your height that's too bad, you can't stand together.

When I first started teaching, I didn't consider the possibility that one day these people might grow up to be stunning musicians and excellent human beings and, in a way that humbles you to the floor, might even cite you as part of the reason why. holy fuck what a feeling wow

I'm leading a workshop of my big score 'Storyteller' as part of @OxMusicFaculty's RETUNE festival on Mon. Commissioned by @CoMA_NewMusic in 2022, this queer piece encourages interactivity, exploring how music also exists in conversations and the spaces between performance.
