Immunology is magic❤️❤️

One of the dogmas of immunology is the "2 signal theory" for T cell activation. Signal 1 = TCR binding Ag/MHC. Signal 2 = engaging CD28 by B7 ligands. Without CD28, there is limited responses by T cells. So....if a human lacks CD28, they should be lots of infections, right?

We just learn that Prof. Ashgar Aghamohammadi from Tehran, passed away due to COVID-19. This is a terrible loss for the PID community, as he truly dedicated his life to his patients. IPOPI addresses our deepest condolences to his family, his colleagues and friends. RIP

Thanks ! Clear and thorough !

1/ Thread on the first 2 papers from the COVIDhge consortium (with my small contribution). The 2 studies show that genetic variants & auto-immunity to type 1 interferons explain 10-15% of very severe #COVID19 cases. science.sciencemag.org/content/369/65… @ScienceMagazine @casanova_lab

Phenomenal new papers in @ScienceMagazine understanding causes of severe COVID-19! Defects in early innate immunity are a major factor. Extraordinary collaborative work by an incredible number of scientific labs. Truly commendable.

"It looks like this virus has one big trick." Evidence suggests antiviral interferon could help some #Covid19 patients, researchers @ljiresearch and Radboud University Medical Center find @ScienceMagazine More @business: trib.al/HO6LZBa
