the inquest into Alice’s death concluded today. the coroner recognised that the 1,023 days Alice spent on the Gender Identity Clinic waiting list had a devastating impact on Alice’s mental health and said that GPs lack clarity in how to support young trans people

Good meeting with my mp. She is fully behind @alicescampaign plans to put mandatory trans led trans awareness training in CAMHS, then GP and adult MH services. She learnt Welsh gender services have short waitlists due to strong GP input and understands the benefits of this model.

We spoke to @guardian for this powerful editorial on the coroner’s role and the importance of our #NoMoreDeaths campaign to help put an end to preventable deaths. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

today, my sister Alice would have been 22. on the second anniversary of her death in May i’ll be running 100km from london to brighton. i'm raising money for @INQUEST_ORG, who support families & campaign where someone has died a state-related death justgiving.com/page/alice-lit…

#TransAwarenessWeek 🧵Trigger warning: suicide I am the proud mum of a trans woman, Alice. Alice came out to her best friend, Lucy when she was fifteen, to her sister, Kate a year later. She didn’t come out to me. Why not? Probably because I’d absorbed media transphobia 1/

We’re very proud to have supported Alice Litman’s family (@alicescampaign) in their search for justice for Alice and to transform the devastatingly insufficient trans healthcare system 🏳️‍⚧️

my family and i were glad to go on GMB this morning to speak about the inaccessibility of trans healthcare, how it contributed to Alice’s death and the transformation we believe is possible if GPs are empowered to provide gender-affirming healthcare

"If you were referred tomorrow, you would be on the waiting list for over 20 years before your first appointment." Peter Litman talks to @skysarahjane about his daughter, Alice, who took her own life after waiting for gender affirming care. #SJUK trib.al/LM8JwRl

"We felt like Alice's story had been listened to by someone in authority for the first time." Peter Litman, father of Alice Litman, a young trans woman who took her own life, recalls how he felt at the inquest into her death. #SJUK trib.al/LM8JwRl 📺 Sky 501 / YouTube

Alice's inquest heard that if a trans person was referred to the GIC today, they would wait 20 years before receiving their first appointment - it is an unconscionable political choice to make vulnerable people wait so long, when we already know this is lifesaving care

We have all cried for Corei today. His mother is now suffering transphobic abuse, just as we do when we speak about Alice's death. There are no words for the pain of knowing that some people dedicate their lives to the cause of making young trans people's lives harder to live.

Campaign for Alice Reposted

“We can never bring Alice back, but we will keep campaigning to ensure that all trans people are able to live in dignity and receive the health care they need and deserve.” A powerful statement from the family of Alice Litman (@alicescampaign).
