A little "day before VE-Day" thread about a Normandy veteran. His name was Tommy Paterson, known as "Pat". Bron on Bastille Day 1921, he joined the army (Royal Engineers) prior to WW2. During the Battle of France he drove trucks carrrying bridging equipment. /1

Armed members of 'Werkdienst Holland', during their military training. Circa 800 craftsmen were recruited to colonize Ukraine (Rivne area) in 1942. Many however soon found themself in military production camps and even had to guard prison camps instead of opening shops. #WWII

This day in 1945 saw the start of Operation 'Bodenplatte'. A Fw 190D-9, flown by Uffz. N. Risky from 6./JG 26 is also part of this action. He is to attack an airfield near Brussel, but gets hit by anti-air. During his flight back towards Nordhorn, Risky's motor burst out 1/3

Just for clarification, as people have a hard time understanding. But there are people, including myself, who own several thousand of photographs. If I dont add a reference, it is because I own the picture. Now please take your IWM debate out of my DM's.

#OTD December 7, 1941 Japanese airman first class Shigenori Nishikaichi crash landed his A6M2 Zero on the remote Hawaiian island of Niihau after taking part in the second wave of attacks on Pearl Harbor. The IJN had designated the island as a safe place to land for damaged planes

16 studbook horses, 15 mares and one stallion, being send by the Nederlandsche Oost Compagnie (Dutch East Company) for horse breeding in Vilnius. The NOC was a Dutch nazi organisation that intended to colonize the areas that the Germans conquered in the east.
