I know what you're thinking. I wish someone would write a little guide book about the fighting in Bretteville-l'Orgueilleuse in June 1944. Well here you go. Hope you like it. Should be available from your favourite online retailer soon If not already. Cheers #WW2 #Normandy44
Ah yes, the Soviet scout. Clad in camouflage and packing submachine guns, theirs is an endearing and popular image. But where exactly did they fit in, within the context of the Red Army in the field?
This day in 1945 saw the start of Operation 'Bodenplatte'. A Fw 190D-9, flown by Uffz. N. Risky from 6./JG 26 is also part of this action. He is to attack an airfield near Brussel, but gets hit by anti-air. During his flight back towards Nordhorn, Risky's motor burst out 1/3
Just for clarification, as people have a hard time understanding. But there are people, including myself, who own several thousand of photographs. If I dont add a reference, it is because I own the picture. Now please take your IWM debate out of my DM's.
#PK 'The fight is over - now the Schütze has time to observe the captured pistol'. A German soldier looking at a captured TT-33 pistol. Photo is likely taken by Friedrich Franz Bauer and dated 21 January 1942. Bauer is mostly known for his Himmler pics and the KZ Dachau series.
#OTD December 7, 1941 Japanese airman first class Shigenori Nishikaichi crash landed his A6M2 Zero on the remote Hawaiian island of Niihau after taking part in the second wave of attacks on Pearl Harbor. The IJN had designated the island as a safe place to land for damaged planes
Thread: The 2 Dutch gunboats H.N.M.S Soemba and Flores participated in Operation Neptune. Armed with 3 15cm (5.9") guns they earned the nickname 'Terrible Twins' for their operation in the Mediterranean. Getting the Soemba ready for D-Day required a peculiar series of messages...
16 studbook horses, 15 mares and one stallion, being send by the Nederlandsche Oost Compagnie (Dutch East Company) for horse breeding in Vilnius. The NOC was a Dutch nazi organisation that intended to colonize the areas that the Germans conquered in the east.

Not anticipating lots of RTs, likes or 'traction' for this; but in your busy day today, would you please bring to mind 15812 Pte HW 'Billy' Disbrey of 11th Cambs Suffolks, a farm boy from Cambridgeshire, missing in action on the #Somme since 1st July 1916. Bugles still calling...
