One of the pleasures of reading is how each sentence is a fractal in your consciousness, connecting someone else's language to your experiences, references, memories. Only you can read like you, and we're depriving ourselves of that for the brutality of a language of "utility"

Stop wasting time reading 100 page documents. This AI tool can read them for you. Just upload any PDF, ask for a summary, and get one in seconds. Try it for free.

its been 6 years since anthony bourdain died, and today i'm thinking about the way he respected palestinians like very few other western journalists ever did. this is from a 2013 episode of parts unknown where he went to the gaza strip.

Jerry Seinfeld says he wouldn’t be able to do many jokes from ‘SEINFELD’ in today’s world. “[One would be] Kramer decides to start a business of having homeless people pull rickshaws because, as he says, ‘They’re outside anyway.’ Do you think I could get that episode on the air…

It’s crazy to me people still don’t do grocery delivery in 2024. It’s like $5. Minimum wage is a higher dollar per hour.

most writers (no, people) would do well to deeply read and contemplate some religious texts. read the bible. read some mystics. read some buddhists. theyre the only books that are looking directly into the face of eternity. its good to put things in their right place.

easy for writers to get stuck taking shots at those better than them as a means of establishing a place in the pantheon. i recommend against it. no one is as good as they wish they were, not even faulkner etc. owning that tho does make you better than you would be otherwise.

I always feel awful for the elves. You took the job 80 years ago to make some whimsical rocking horses, 4 parts tops. And now you're soldering an iPad motherboard with your arthritic, cinnamon-scented hands. A brutal gig.

Researchers gave homeless people $750 per month for a year, no questions asked. The recipients spent the money on food, housing, transportation, clothing, and health care. And after six months, only 12% of those who received funds were still homeless. latimes.com/california/sto…
