Hey SARS-CoV-2 community! We noticed differences between our daily data dump from @GISAID and downloading data for the same time frame via the web interface. E.g the numbers of BA.2.86 differed between the API data dump and web interface search. @GISAID, why is that? Thanks!

🚨 Thx to the continued efforts of so many colleagues, our genomic surveillance has discovered the first SARS-CoV-2 BA.2.86 genome in 🇩🇪 The consensus sequence ID @GISAID is: EPI_ISL_18241632 - already picked up & added to the ongoing community discussion github.com/sars-cov-2-var…

Through this medium-scale surveillance system, we cover the distribution of VOCs fairly accurately, even though we only capture a small portion of what was sequenced nationwide during this period (Dec '20-'21). Huge thx to all colleagues @rki_de & external partners!

1/ The Integrated Molecular Surveillance of #SARSCoV2 is being established at #RKI. Selected laboratories from all over 🇩🇪 regularly send in samples, which are then examined, sequenced, bioinformatically analyzed, & evaluated here. Results in @CIDJournal ➡️doi.org/10.1093/cid/ci…

Very glad to be attending the #viroid 2022 meeting - so many exciting talks and certainly so much to learn and discover!

Now it's the turn of @akifoss talking about her extensive charactherization of a rodent #deltavirus that infects without a helper hepadnavirus. An excellent job that significantly contributes to the biological characterization of the #ribozyviria realm 👏

Current phylogenetic tree of all de-duplicated Delta-Omicron GKA recombinants from GISAID. nextstrain.org/community/DC-D… Most recent sample was collected on 28 Feb. Really low circulation in Denmark, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

We identified one 🇩🇪 SARS-CoV-2 genome that clusters w/ recent 🇫🇷 AY.4/BA.1 recombinants (99.7% nt ident, discussed at github.com/cov-lineages/p…). The seq marked in purple is the 🇩🇪 one we uploaded (GISAID: EPI_ISL_10910370). The tree just shows our internal seqID.

Is there really a plant #flavivirus? - Medium thread. Flaviviruses are enveloped RNA viruses that infect a diverse range of animals, but do they also infect plants?

Positions @rki_de bioinformatics unit! We search a PostDoc for microbial pangenomics, working w/ long reads & genome graphs. And we're looking for candidates supporting our genomic SARS-CoV-2 surveillance (pipeline dev, data flow, automation). Interested? Please get in touch!

🥳 Really glad to see this published: doi.org/10.1093/ve/vea… Thanks to everyone who made this work possible 😊 A tiny step towards understanding RNA flavivirus/tombusvirus evolution and the last step before graduating 🎓
