After almost 4 months of encampment, the student Palestine encampment in Dortmund were forced by German police to take down the camp and leave, and police said they would arrest me if I went there. All this just because the students had invited me to speak at their event and I…
Why is the Middle East unstable despite decades of bombing it into stability
My beloved city. My heart explodes along with you
I know Israelis are fine desecrating anything, but I can't emphasize how jarring it is that their bombing on Beirut yesterday damaged one of the oldest sacred cemeteries in the city. It's the final resting place of many old Beirut Sunni families, of Ottoman Pashas and governors.
The Samir Kassir Foundation (SKF) @SK_Eyes has launched an emergency fund for journalists in Lebanon to support those forced to evacuate their homes and seek refuge in safer areas.
“Gaza is the greatest historical scandal.” “Bodies are in pieces. Hearts are in pieces. Souls are in pieces. Heads are in pieces.” —Former French Prime Minister, Dominique de Villepin
Unreal. Cruelty. Depravity. Again and again. And yet we are supposed to pretend that this is not happening. Or that it is not utter horror.
What kind of bomb creates a 30-foot-deep crater? And what kind of regime uses such a bomb to attack a refugee camp filled with people displaced for the third or fourth time, after enduring 11 months of bombing, massacres, starvation, and disease?
I strongly recommend reading these four great books published in the last two years together to reconsider the history of the Ottoman “East”👇🏼
(1/4) I am very proud to announce that @UCBerkeley Social Sciences has launched a new program + chair in Palestinian + Arab Studies that's been years in the making due to high demand from students. Learn more: bit.ly/3zjE4dO
Happy to announce my next poetry collection, THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT BEAUTY, is coming out with @PenguinBooks in Spring 2027! It’s a series of 40 palindromic sonnets. The number 40 has much significance for me, & this has been the most formally challenging work I’ve done 🌊
"Every night, before he sleeps, he asks his mother about his missing arms. Each time, she reassures him that they will grow back overnight. Once morning comes, he discovers her deceit when he sees the neighbor’s child, armless, just like him."
What writing after this writing? Astonishing!! When he comes across the lifeless arm of a man, he tenderly arranges it around the lifeless body of a woman, reminiscent of the way he used to embrace his beloved while strolling by the boundless sea themarkaz.org/fragments-from…
New series on Gaza from Dar Tibaq: a set of reflections on Gaza by major Arab writers (Hoda Barakat, Adania Shibli, Jokha Alharathi and 30 more); a book of testimonies by Gazan writers; a study of Western attitudes towards Gaza by Marwan al-Ghafouri entitled Fascism for Beginners
How routine the Israeli killing of Palestinian civilians and children has become. This should not be remotely acceptable to any person of any faith or background.
Grégoire Haddad, the "Red Bishop of Beirut" who helped found Lebanon's Amal Movement, also found time to write a book on Arabic prosody

Hala Rharrit, the 1st American diplomat to resign from the State Department over U.S. policy in Gaza, reveals to me how her criticisms were silenced. In a video interview for @AlMajallaEN, I spoke to her extensively on her role trying to change the White House's position.

I have never felt the best part of my self seen so well & so generously. I cannot express how lucky I feel that such a thoughtful and talented artist as @yasmineseale turned her gaze on me. wordswithoutborders.org/read/article/2…
