A rehabilitated juv. Griffon Vulture, F29, released on 01/09/2024 at the Lago di Cornino Regional NR in Friuli was spotted in Bulgaria in October. 3 days ago (12/11/2024) it was photographed at a vulture project in Galilee 🇮🇱. Youngsters often undertake these long movements.

In the 21st century update, the Fifth Circle of Hell in Dante's Inferno is reserved (among others) for people who throw leaves in the garden waste recycling still in plastic bin bags. May God show no mercy on their souls.

A hunting friend clocked this on his trailcam near Trieste & asked me to ID it for him. (A female Black Woodpecker).

In Trieste 🇮🇹, C. Europe's coffee capital since the time of the Habsburgs, many people ask for a "capo in b" in the bar in the morning. It's a cappuccino in a glass. There is even a bar of that name in the city. cafferoen.com/it/blog/capo-i…

Two weeks ago, we had ran out of clean mugs so I made a coffee in a glass. The taste was so much nicer than in a mug, and now I can't stop. My wife thinks I've lost the plot completely, but I'm never using a mug again.

A friend sent me this picture. In 🇮🇹 they practice "la prontacaccia" ("instant hunting"). This pheasant was released straight from the crate at 7am on Sunday. By 9 am it had already been predated. Apart from being unfair on the birds, "la prontacaccia" has devastated 🇮🇹 hunting.

Wife says dog has dropped all 3 heavy rubber balls in the pond. In my skiddies in the pond (8°C?) up to my bollocks, I find one immediately but spend another 10 mins. feeling in the mud like Wim fucking Hof. Back in the house. Blue. I find the two missing balls in his toy box! 🥶

I read the Daily Mail so that you don't have to. Which other newspaper would cover "Nazi Raccoons" (other than the Sunday Sport)?dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

People in UK need to realise that millions of Italians in the plain of Padua ("Pianura Padana", basically Venice to Milan) live with this for much of Nov. to March. Interestingly, the no. of foggy days is declining. Perhaps due to better air quality. theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/n…

This deserves a repost - because £100mil is too much to spend on a bat colony. It would buy ca. 50km2 of good agri. land for nature. Or 25km2 & €50mil to manage it. Makes me think of Harry Enfield's "I saw you coming".

The UK government just spent £100 million on a mesh tunnel to protect some bats from trains. It would've been cheaper to buy each bat its own castle in Transylvania.

This is inevitable. It's certainly bad for translators (like me!) but probably v. good for new authors. AI translations may well be bland, but the creators of original prose will see their work read in other languages & picked up for spin-offs (TV & film). theguardian.com/books/2024/nov…

Well there's a succinct reply to yesterday's March for Clean Water from the government. Two words, seven letters, & the second word is "you!"

The government says it's dropping the Chalk Stream Recovery Pack because there's "no mandate" for it. Anyone else feel like there's more public support for saving our dying chalk streams than cutting the Winter Fuel Payment? chalkstreams.org/2024/11/02/the…
