I back Extinction Rebellion’s aims, but was dubious if past direct action was effective for public support. But, the move for mass protest at Parliament is spot on, as is XR point ‘the cost of living crisis is the price of climate inaction’ #xr #thebigone extinctionrebellion.uk/the-big-one/#w

If someone wants you to be angry about climate activists & trade unionists & immigrants but not angry about a tax dodging planet devouring corporation making a record £32,000,000,000 annual profit, then they are not on your side.

The move to axe Autumn Watch is unbelievable (well not so much when we have ‘anti woke culture warrior’ Michelle Donelan as culture secretary whose resume includes working for WWE not WWF. #SaveAutumnWatch - Sign the Petition! chng.it/nRmHnvzL via @UKChange

Come on @BBC! Why on earth cancel #Autumnwatch! It's a vital show to help people to connect with nature in what is a very nature impoverished country! Please rethink this ridiculous decision! @BBCSpringwatch standard.co.uk/showbiz/celebr…

In one set of TV ads: buy triple glazing: buy responsive heat controls to warm the room your in: buy better home insulation. Question I pondered, why do we have to buy these at 100% of the RRP? Surely if gov were serious about net 0, these would be subsidised and minimum standard

In discussion with a journalist this morning I suggested that the whole of the UK, government included, now feels as if it’s being run to provide money to a failing financial services sector and those who enjoy the returns it pays. For how long can we keep going like this?

Sajid Javid says we need to pay £20 for a GP appointment and £66 to go to A&E as a way to solve the NHS funding crisis. He’s wrong because there are so many better options in my new report on funding the NHS. A thread…..

Whilst not a silver bullet to all the social ills of our times, a 4 day work week would only create positives. Solutions for creating a better world exist! #4dayworkweek

“And of all the arguments in favour of the four-day week, I’d say the crucial one is the most numinous sounding – hope. We have become so used to the idea that things can only get worse. Why can’t things improve?” #4DayWeek #32hours theguardian.com/society/2023/j…

380,000 children in the UK don't own books. I was one of them. We'll have to invent libraries all over again once they're gone. My piece for @thetimesmagazine tomorrow and online from today. #Books #Libraries #EmpireLand #TheBoyWithTheTopknot #literacy thetimes.co.uk/article/186229…

Everything wrong with our politics, in one story: Hedge fund manager buys large estate on Dartmoor. Uses vast fortune to challenge the right to camp there. Wins. Local people call on their MP to amend the legislation. Discover he's been funded by the hedge fund manager.

I am bemused by claims that we cannot afford 10% pay rises for public sector workers when we have inflation of 10%. Do the politicians saying this not realise that this means we also have an increase of near enough 10% in tax revenues, or more than enough to cover the cost?

Prime example of greenwashing. @NHM_London would be wise to walk away from the contract with Orsted oil when it ends this year

We must work together to get out of the mess we're in. We have to trust each other and stand united when the government, the banks, the oil companies and the bosses try to divide us. We're stronger together. Be there. April 21st: extinctionrebellion.uk/?anref=twitter

Whenever they tell you a change is impossible, show them Utrecht. An urban freeway with many lanes can become a green park with a beautiful canal. Instead of a car sewer, the water flows.

Spot on

We’re not hearing the impact of A&E chaos on disabled and chronically ill people. If you’re disabled, waiting 15 hours without a bed is outright dangerous, let alone in a packed covid space. Many will simply not go. In a NHS crisis, the people who need help most won’t get it.
