My mom just informed me that my extended family thinks I’m doing my “PhD in Trains” and I think I’m gonna just keep letting them think that cause it’s way easier than trying to explain civic infrastructure.

Tell me you’ve never deeply engaged with conducting qualitative research methods without telling me… As a researcher who blends qual and computational methods, I would never dream of handing over interviewing to AI. There are ways to merge these approaches, but this ain’t it.

1/ Qualitative interviews offer unparalleled richness but are rarely used in economics. Let's change that! New WP with @Ingar30 uses an AI-driven approach to conducting q qualitative interviews, making them scalable, cheap, and ripe for both qualitative and quantitative analysis!

I haven’t quite figured out if fieldwork makes me more or less homesick for NE Minnesota (But I’m leaning towards more).

ONLINE FIRST! This article by @kthorson & @_afbat looks at the work that US young adults undertake to design and maintain their personal #media worlds across #digital platforms, and the consequences of those practices for #news use. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

New Pub Alert🚨 @kthorson and I talk about how young adults construct media ecosystems to avoid news and the considerable labor involved. We draw on architectural theory to discuss the constant work that goes into constructing and remodeling these systems. tandfonline.com/eprint/C2UYIIA…

Check out @gineuls at 2pm today in Marquis Salon 14! Our paper (+ @marcospaulo_jor) argues the importance of learning from AND giving credit to the diverse and expansive work of Indigenous journalists across the globe as we reevaluate our practices as scholars and practitioners.
