Multiple 911 callers “frantically begged for help,” reporting shots fired in a St. Paul bar. A woman in her 20s was pronounced dead; 14 others were taken to the hospital. There is no Minnesota statute making it illegal to concealed carry in a bar. #mnleg nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1…

“...and with those that incited them”

The ultimate blame for yesterday’s events lies with the unhinged criminals who tried to disrupt our government and with those who incited them. But this fact does not preclude our addressing the shocking failures in the Capitol’s security posture and protocols. My full statement:

Let’s be very clear. The officials urging for no serious consequences after Wednesday’s attack on our country - including the impeachment, removal, expulsion, and/or indictment of officials who aided, abetted, or incited the attack - are opening the door for it to happen again.

This is a welcome approach to reusing older technology which is functional but dated. I'd reuse old phones as mp3 players for kids if I could lock off cellular service so they don't call 911. Samsung's Galaxy Upcycling turns old phones into IoT devices buff.ly/2Lq8vWN

The man directly responsible for the chaos of today is Donald Trump, who has made it clear that he will do anything to remain in power – including insurrection and inciting violence. Trump will go down in history as the worst and most dangerous president in history.

What is happening in the Capitol is reprehensible and has been building up for years. Those who enabled Trump should know that this is where it leads. My heart goes out to the injured and I hope everyone that can do so stays safe. This is a dark day in America.

“Lies have consequences,” Senator Ben Sasse, Republican of Nebraska. “This violence was the inevitable and ugly outcome of the president’s addiction to constantly stoking division.”

“Democracy is fragile,” Biden says, requiring, “leaders with the courage to stand up” who are “devoted not to the pursuit of power,” but to “the common good.”

Words have consequences, especially the words of a president and his allies. Today those consequences include violent rioters attacking our Capitol to overthrow the American democratic process. This must end, and democracy must prevail.

Police -- pretend they are black instead of white and proceed accordingly.

In America, you can be teargassed and shot with rubber bullets for peacefully protesting in front of a church. But you can literally bust down the doors to the United States Capitol and stroll around while police officers watch.

I’ve covered lots of protests & flew out to Kenosha this week as National Guard came & officials over-prepared for peaceful protests... seeing a crowd of mostly white ppl storm the capitol is distressing. This is not what law and order looks like for the communities I’ve covered.

They’re in the chamber. One is up on the dais yelling “Trump won that election!” This is insane
