Every time I meet an incredible engineer and ask where they're from it turns out to be some random part of the Midwest; what is going on over there

"Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see."

A founder and his son had an AI startup that helped the family earn a living. One day, OpenAI released ChatGPT and tech twitter cried out “Your startup is fucked, what terrible luck!”. The founder replied “Maybe so, maybe not. We’ll see.” A few months later the startup doubled…

Interested in different ways that LLMs are used? Here's a relevant thread on @character_ai - some skepticism but "obviously getting something right".

I've been thinking about AI products recently, and while the major labs (OpenAI, GDM, Anthropic) are competing on productivity assistants, character is clearly going in a different direction. Thinking from first principles, human beings have a few fundamental desires: not being…

Great thread. It's one of many gems waiting to be rediscovered by people who dig into times gone by.

In the 1970s, Edgar Codd, inventor of the relational database, had a vision. He wanted to build a natural language interface that would allow a user with limited knowledge of a database to query it. He called it Rendezvous.
