The century old cyclodextrins finally got their mirror-images! Please check our latest Research Article in @NatureSynthesis We hope the introduction of L-CDs, as we call them—in an efficient and scalable manner—might be useful for the community. @sirfrasersays @HKU_Chemistry

I've been writing about molecular switches since my early days at @cenmag - how cool it is to see one incorporated in this glucose-sensitive insulin from @novonordisk cen.acs.org/pharmaceutical…
Cyclodextrin metal-organic frameworks (CD-MOFs) making humanity think beautifully by introducing state-of-the-art science (slow & controlled release of skin care additives) into an industry in need of change. Go Noble Panacea with CD-MOFs = OSMVs = Organic SupraMolecular Vessels.
Thrilled to be awarded the 2024 Sauvage-Stoddart-Feringa Junior Award #Mach5 Many people to thank for this: the awards committee @RainerHerges Alberto Credi @sirfrasersays @FeringaLab and Jean-Pierre Sauvage and also my nominators/ supporters Two more signatures to collect!!!
Tremendous efforts, exceptional results, highest quality of presentation as always! Congrats to @Ruihua_Zhang93 and @chuntangchem! @sirfrasersays @RandallSnurr
Point-catenation unlocks hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks for H2 storage. Check out our article in @NatureChemistry featuring 7-fold catenated supramolecular crystals with high BET areas and record-high volumetric H2 storage capacities. @sirfrasersays @NUChemistry @HKUniversity

In establishing an H2 economy the main challenge is storage of the gas. The serendipitous discovery by @Ruihua_Zhang93 that storage in hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) marks a milestone. The article in @NatureChemistry celebrates the end of our first year @HKUniversity
Chemists are always in awe of what nature can make, but we do not always make exactly what nature makes. In this @J_A_C_S paper, with change of just one carbon - from CH2 to C=O, a pseudo-polysaccharide could achieve both facile polymerization and depolymerization.#glycotime

Building on reticular chemistry principles, we’ve expanded our covalent organic pillars into a larger iCOPs family. These discrete nanotubular structures act as deep cavitands, ideal for hosting long alkyl guests. Check out the extensive X-ray crystal structures at @J_A_C_S!

For the past 16 years (2008-2023) my research group & I had the great good fortune to work very closely with Charlotte Stern. Our many collaborations with Charlotte requiring solid-state (super)structures have resulted in >70 joint publications: she is worth her weight in gold!
Meet Charlotte Stern! 👋 Charlotte is an X-Ray Crystallography Specialist in the Integrated Molecular Structure Education and Research Center (@imserc). For over 30 years her work has contributed to groundbreaking research happening at @NUChemistry ➡️ bit.ly/3xz5ThA

I was bullied for the first two decades of my academic career at Sheffield. This experience has left me absolutely determined to call out bullies wherever I meet them round the globe. More often than not the bullies turn out to be cowards.
Truly one of things I admire most about Fraser is that he is not afraid of speaking out when he sees bullying.
π-Interaction-driven molecular assembly to form π-diamonds using chair-shape molecules as building blocks. Congratulations to the creative Westlake team! @zhichang_liu I am wondering when and how can we see similar research outcome using carbohydrates as scaffolds.
Excited to share our latest work in #MolecularStrainEngineering: π-Diamond, the first-ever 3D diamondoid superstructure driven solely by π-interactions, published in @angew_chem So proud of the SOFA Lab @LLLLLJ57452613 @TzzzzB_ @Westlake_Uni! Read: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.100…

Great news, finding sugars so far away.... I really hope this is not another "phosphine on Venus" kind of situation #glycotime
An experiment suggests that Arrokoth, a Kuiper Belt object, may derive its red color from sugars, including glucose and ribose, which are building blocks for RNA and lipids. Did ingredients for life on Earth come from the Kuiper Belt? In PNAS: ow.ly/UHtR50SaVsV
No surprise to me, Yong. I told you before you left Hong Kong for Dunkirk that your talk would be well received and it was. Congratulations!
Thank you for your very kind words! Although it is my first experience attending the International Cyclodextrin Symposium (ICS), I enjoyed interacting with the community. So much interesting science as well.

Amazing talk by @YongWu1990 from @sirfrasersays group about how to make mirror image cyclodextrins. Mindblowing chemistry at ICS21!
Please check out our paper in @J_A_C_S on Tf-regulated chemically recyclable polymer, which inherently exhibit enhanced thermodynamic stability as the temperature increases, overcoming the long-standing challenge of instability that typically associated with Tc-regulated ones.
