Dyslexia awareness week this week, so some things not to do in your slides (not the only thing that matters, but the thing I know about): - Black text on a white background - Massive chunk of text that you then 'let people read' - Keeping talking 'while people are reading'

This is the first I've heard of this. My mind is blown but also not in the least surprised at the same time...

Heard this anecdotally today so thought I'd check it out. Once you graduate from an undergrad at Oxford you can get an MA simply by paying and turning up to receive it?! #gradeinflation alumniweb.ox.ac.uk/jesus/graduati…

This is the business model of exploitation that higher education has come to depend upon. It has to stop! ✋🏻 Casualisation and associated precarity is a moral stain on our sector. This isn’t a rite of passage, it’s institutionalised disregard for staff. #LoveHE

Only just realising that my incessant use of first names when addressing other academics via emails/irl may be problematic! It would feel weirdly hierarchical to me to do so. What are other people's thoughts?

I also delete every email that first-persons me on a first email. Them’s the rules. You can decide how you want to be addressed, but I’m the one who decides how *I* want to be addressed.

Great opportunities for funded PhDs in @CDWSheffield Especially excited about the 'young workers and the global economy' project 🙌🙌🙌

⚡️🚨⚡️We have fully funded #PhDs available @CDWSheffield! Projects such as collective organising in logistics, bogus self-employment, young workers, & managerial competencies. Deadline 1st July at 5pm! get in touch to discuss applying! ⚡️🚨⚡️ sheffield.ac.uk/management/stu…

Some interesting stats on increasing trade union membership among young people in the UK. If you are a postgraduate student with an interest in young workers, or work & employment more generally & want to pursue a PhD in this area then get in touch with us here @CDWSheffield!

New @ONS stats out today show union membership for workers under 24 is UP from 7.8% to 8.4% - bucking the trend of decline More optimism: if 10,000 school strikers 🌎 joined a union next year membership of 16-19 year olds would go up by a third - neweconomics.org/2019/05/next-g… @NEF

Some really good points made by @VikkiBoliver particularly in flagging up how OfS targets are completely unrealistic without this kind of substantial shift in HE admissions policies
