Brown fish owl, பூமன் ஆந்தை (Ketupa zeylonensis) species of fish owl, at home in forests near water across #TamilEelam. Diurnal, hunts fish, frogs and crustaceans, also known to eat other vertebrates. Has no feathers near it’s talons time aid it hunting in water. Least concern.

Indian cobra, நல்ல பாம்பு (Naja naja) - moderately sized cobra between 1m-1.5m long, at home across Tamil Eelam and the entire subcontinent. Often occurs in forests and grasslands near water. Feeds on small animals. Highly venomous, can cause death in humans. Least concern.

Asian koel, பொதுக் குயில் (Eudynamys scolopaceus) - med sized bird, common in gardens and near human habitation across #TamilEelam. Brood parasite - lays its eggs in the nest of crows to be hatched and raised by them. Significant bird in Tamil folklore & mythology. Least concern.

Ceylon hanging parakeet, இலங்கை தொங்கும் கிளி (Loriculus beryllinus) - small parrot, around 13cm long. Lives in forest and gardens across #TamilEelam however most common in the jungles of Amparai. Hangs upside down to sleep and eat. Least concern. #lka #Tamil #SriLanka

Common kukri snake, எண்ணெய்ப் பனையன்/ஓலைப்பாம்பு (Oligodon arnensis) nonvenomous, diurnal snake, found across #TamilEelam and South Asia. Fairly small, at 50-65cm. Occupies fringe areas of forests and scrubs. Feeds on gecko eggs, gecko babies and skinks. Least concern. #srilanka

Crab-plover, நண்டுத்திண்ணி/Nanduthinni (Dromas ardeola) - unique wader, with bill specialised for eating crabs. Resident in #TamilEelam along the coast from Puttalam to Mullaithivu. Nests in colonies, laying an egg in sandy burrows, using ground warmth to incubate. Least concern
