When a politician claims that God is on their side, they are just using God to try to get you on their side. It is simply taking God’s name in vain for the sake of their own pursuit of power. Turning any politician into some messiah like figure for Christianity is blasphemous.
History has a grim lesson : “Violence of any type begets more violence and serves as an excuse to the side affected to enact revenge.” So it is vitally important for people who believe in democracy and the rule of law to condemn this act of violence loudly and unequivocally.

It is a bankrupt Christianity that sees a demagogue co-opting our faith and even our holy scriptures for the sake of his own pursuit of power and praise him for it rather than insist that we refuse to allow our sacred faith and scriptures to become a mouthpiece for an empire.
